Good Idea: Blowing the whistle

https://www.gq.com/story/how-to-make-millions-as-a-professional-whistleblower

A real life detective story.
Some people make their living snitching on fraudulent rich people. And get payed by the state for doing so.

Sadly not all whistleblower get a financial reward for watching out. By coming forward, whistleblowers help protect the public interest, hold people in power accountable, and often bring about necessary change. It takes courage to speak up, especially when it could come at personal cost, but their actions help create a fairer and more transparent world. Without whistleblowers, many injustices would go unchecked.

Do you have a story about important whistleblowings?
Like Snowden or the Boeing case? Share them in the comments!

On this day, 17 September 1849, legendary abolitionist Harriet Tubman and her brothers, Ben and Henry, escaped from slavery in Maryland. After the escape, Ben and Henry decided to go back, which essentially made Tubman return as well. But, not long later, Harriet Tubman escaped once more and travelled to Philadelphia. In the years following her escape, she worked tirelessly to save money to return and free more enslaved people: rescuing around 70 people in 13 missions through the underground railroad. Tubman later helped John Brown recruit fighters for an insurrection at Harpers Ferry. During the civil war, Tubman became the first woman to lead an armed attack during the conflict, playing a leading role in the Combahee River raid in which over 750 enslaved people were rescued. Later in life, Tubman remained active active in the women's rights movement until her death in 1913.More information, sources and map: https://stories.workingclasshistory.com/article/8941/harriet-tubman-escapes-slavery * If you enjoy our social media posts be sure to check out our podcasts. TIL that when “Fight Club” premiered at the 1999 Venice Film Festival, it got booed hard by the audience. Ed Norton said that as it was happening, Brad Pitt turned to him and said: “That’s the best movie I’m ever going to be in.” [source, comments]

💿 Platten, die die Welt bedeuten: Laurie Anderson-Amelia feat. Anohni

This week, there are demonstrations in New York City after police attacked a person they accused of dodging the fare on the subway. Multiple police opened fire, shooting the suspect, each other, and several other people who happened to be in the station.

It's senseless to have police randomly shooting people to enforce a $2.90 fare. Make the subways free as a step towards the abolition of capitalism and police.
