TWITTER TO BLUESKY TRANSITION PLAN
For people who don't want to JUST delete their Twitter handle and leave it open to bad actors.
Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, this all has to be done on a desktop/laptop computer, not from mobile devices.
1. Download your Data Export, if you haven't already. If you've done one recently enough, that will work too. (I had one from over a year ago, it worked fine.)
2. Delete your old Tweets and RTs. https://github.com/lucahammer/tweetXer is what I used. It's not too complicated to run, and it only took about 2 minutes while I went to get a drink. I was moderately active on Twitter with a history back to 2012, so that's impressive to me. I had to clean up about a dozen tweets/RTs/replies it missed since I used an old data export.
3. If migrating to Bluesky, use the Sky Follower Bridge desktop browser extension, to find the accounts you followed on Twitter, but now on Bluesky. https://skyfollowerbridge.com/ I will note that this process did take me about a half-hour because currently you have to click to follow each found account individually. It also detected people on Bluesky who weren't the same account as Twitter by searching their bio for handles, but if you notice it doesn't match, you just don't click to follow that one.
4. If you wish, put a single post on your Twitter account explaining where else to find you. Or set posts to private and put it in your bio. Check that your settings also keep your likes private, if you care about that.
That's... pretty much it, enjoy!
