‘Who did you exploit today?’ That’s what Tahmel Morton asks men working on Wall Street in New York. Filmed as a comedy sketch for the MTV2 programme ‘Wonder Showzen,’ what makes it so funny is how it sheds light on a brutal yet taboo reality.
With its origins dating back to 1711, Wall Street emerged as none other than a slave market where stolen Africans were auctioned as cattle and commodities to the highest bidder. The founders and their descendants of top Wall Street financial institutions, such as Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Citibank, and JP Morgan (to name a few), made astronomically large sums of money through the labour of enslaved Africans in the US South, Cuba, and other Caribbean islands. And speaking about the US South, let’s not forget the US North.

Final draft of Gaza truce deal presented to sides after 'breakthrough', official says
Mediators gave Israel and Hamas a final draft of a deal on Monday to end the war in Gaza, an official briefed on the negotiations said, after a midnight "breakthrough" in talks attended by envoys of both Joe Biden and Donald Trump.
The official said the text for a ceasefire and release of hostages was presented by Qatar to both sides at talks in Doha, which included the chiefs of Israel's Mossad and Shin Bet spy agencies and Qatar's prime minister. read more

WHEN CHE GUEVARA VISITED GHANA
On this day (14 January) in 1965, Ghana welcomed the Argentine-born revolutionary Che Guevara (1928-67) during his three-month journey across Africa.
Guevara’s mission was to forge connections between the liberation movements of Africa and those in Latin America. In Ghana, he met Pan-Africanist leader Kwame Nkrumah (1909-72), who, at the time, held the dual roles of president and prime minister. Together, they toured development initiatives, including the Volta Dam, which can power 207,600 homes, and the 19-kilometre Accra-Tema highway.
This visit helped establish Cuba’s commitment to internationalism. The Caribbean island has provided vital personnel, resources and logistical aid to support Africa’s fight against imperialism. Guevara’s impact inspired countless Cuban medical professionals who have dedicated themselves to enhancing health programmes across the continent.
