Tonight we give thanks that six years ago, on August 12, 2017, courageous people from around the southeastern United States gathered in Charlottesville, Virginia to prevent fascists from building a united street movement. At that time, few outside the anarchist and anti-fascist movements really understood the threat that the fascists gathering in Charlottesville represented. Afterwards, it was clear to all.
This was a costly victory—one person gave her life, and many others suffered life-threatening injuries. But if people had not confronted the fascists that day, they might have gained considerably more numbers and power, killing and injuring many more people.
Here, you can read an interview with an anarchist who participated in countering the fascist mobilization that day:

You might know this song if you're my age. Pretty solid neo-soul/R'n'B- song by Angie Stone:
Probably unknown to most is that she also was the lead singer and rapper of the first female hip hop group called The Sequence signed to Sugar Hill Records in 1979.
1981 in Hip Hop music (remake of a song by Parliament): https://open.spotify.com/track/7jMyX1E3AXdZyTqgkDkIVs?si=Z70b-4k9RxWvXlx384cYvQ

TIL in ancient Egypt, under the decree of Ptolemy II, all ships visiting the city were obliged to surrender their books to the library of Alexandria and be copied. The original would be kept in the library and the copy given back to the owner. [Source]
We have two candidates to represent 1982 in rap history.
1. Grandmaster Flash & Furious Five who brought the conscious (nowadays you would say woke) element to a party culture that Hip Hip mainly was in the 70s.

2. There is Afrika Bambaataa. A figure, who founded the Zulu Nation and thereby helped spread the culture around the globe. Kraftwerk fans will probably like this:
If you haven't been young in the 70s and lived in South Bronx you still get the chance to feel the vibe of the first Block partys. Watch the show The Get Down (Netflix). Narrated by Nas. Lots of dancing, music and graffiti. That I enjoyed it, is an understatement. It gave me a Hip Hop boner.
