If you haven't been young in the 70s and lived in South Bronx you still get the chance to feel the vibe of the first Block partys. Watch the show The Get Down (Netflix). Narrated by Nas. Lots of dancing, music and graffiti. That I enjoyed it, is an understatement. It gave me a Hip Hop boner.

Again in 1983 there were many releases that are defining in the evolution of Rap music. From the songs I picked to represent this year, we start with a release from the musicians who had the deepest impact on Hip Hop/Pop culture. The remix was a Nr.1-Hit in 1997. We're talking about Run-D.M.C and the song is called:
As you might know, Hip Hop consists of several elements. And Rap music is only one of them. Wether this is really true or just a PR stunt to market the culture with books and movies (Wild Style, see below) and how many elements there really are, is a matter of opinion. One definition is MCing ("Rap"), DJing, B-Boying (Breakdance) and Writing (Graffiti).
