📸 New Camera System Allows Humans to See the World as Animals Do
Scientists at the University of Sussex and George Mason University have developed a camera system → that can recreate how animals see the world through both visible and ultraviolet light.
The technology uses two cameras and custom software to record 4 different color channels, including blue, green, red, and UV, and processes the data using Python to accurately depict how animals perceive those colors. When compared to traditional spectrophotometry methods, the new system predicted perceived colors with an accuracy of over 92%.
The open-source software and modular 3D-printed casing make the technology accessible for future research, offering potential insights into animal communication and conservation efforts.
