👾 The rising tide of cyberthreat

Kaspersky → shares with Durov's Code insights on threats shaping cybersecurity in 2024.

According to Kaspersky's analysis, the number of online threats caused by vulnerabilities in web pages, emails or web services varies significantly across the region. Turkey has the highest number of users affected by online threats (41.8%), followed by Kenya (39.2%), Qatar (38.8%) and South Africa (35%).

When looking at the threat landscape in the United Arab Emirates, Kaspersky’s analytics showed that the number of overall cyberthreats in the country decreased by 20% in 2023 as compared to 2022. At the same time, there was a 44% increase in the number of spyware attacks, where malware infiltrates a user's computer to collect and transmit data to third parties. And backdoor attacks, which allow users to bypass security and gain high-level access, increased by 55%.

This trend is particularly evident due to the emergence of advanced technologies like AI and the escalating geopolitical and economic turbulence within the META region. These factors collectively contribute to the surge in cybercrime and the heightened complexity of cyberattacks,

There was a total of 72.7 million threats blocked by Kaspersky endpoint solutions in the Middle East throughout 2023; for Africa, the figure stands at 36.7 million, and for Turkey – at 9.4 million.

🚀 Intuitive Machines Makes Lunar History

Intuitive Machines' IM-1 mission made history by landing a robotic lander, the Nova-C lander →, on the moon's surface on Feb. 22. This marked the first American lunar landing since the Apollo era and the first time a privately developed spacecraft touched down on the lunar surface in over 50 years.

The mission, part of NASA's Commercial Lunar Payload Services initiative, carried six NASA payloads and is valued at $118 million. The Nova-C lander touched down in the moon's south polar region, a key location for potential water ice reserves.

The successful landing paves the way for future missions to utilize lunar resources to sustain a human presence, supporting NASA's Artemis crew program. The mission's data collection will provide crucial information for establishing future Artemis bases on the moon's southern pole, vital for preparing for crewed missions to Mars.
