Pavel Durov announced → in his channel a number of major changes regarding moderation on the platform. Thus, the messenger has indeed finally removed the "People Nearby" feature. According to the head of Telegram, it was used by scammers and less than 0.1% of real users.
→ The feature will be replaced by a new option "Businesses Nearby", where verified and legitimate companies will be presented, which will be given the opportunity to demonstrate their catalogs and accept payments.
→ The option to upload new media files to the Telegraph service was also disabled, as it was being used by anonymous attackers.
Separately, Durov emphasized that the vast majority of Telegram users are not associated with criminal activity, but a minority of 0.001% creates a bad reputation for the entire platform.
Therefore, the Telegram team intends to improve moderation this year to protect the interests of nearly a billion users and make moderation a point of pride rather than criticism of the messenger.
