This phenomenon is not representative of all Sunnis, but it is increasingly visible among certain groups and online platforms. Abusive slurs and derogatory language directed at the holy Imams have been observed across various media platforms, coming from individuals of different Sunni backgrounds, and this constitutes a grave sin that is being committed openly, particularly in the period following the fall of Syria and the wider regional chaos.

Imam Mahdi (A), regardless of whether one recognizes him as the Twelfth Imam or views him through a different theological framework, is universally acknowledged to be from the Ahlulbayt. He is the son of Imam Hasan al-Askari (A), whose lineage traces directly back to the Prophet Muhammad (S). Insulting or abusing him therefore amounts to disrespect toward the household of the Prophet, whom all Muslims are commanded to love, honor, and revere. Differences in jurisprudence, theology, or historical interpretation do not justify mockery, hatred, or verbal abuse of sacred figures.

Disagreement should remain within the bounds of scholarly debate and ethical conduct. Turning theological differences into tools for ridicule and sectarian hostility only deepens divisions within the Muslim ummah and serves political and ideological agendas that thrive on discord. Respect for the Ahlulbayt is a shared Islamic principle, and violating this respect undermines the moral and spiritual foundations of Islam itself.
