Cibele finally sat down, munching his chips. The crunching, as loud as it was, was still more enjoyable than his screechings.
“Listen, Serpico.” God was surely testing him, so Serpico held his tongue for the time being and actually listened. “How come you know words like aggrandize but you can’t understand arabic.”
That’s a stupid-effing-question. Serpico secured his eyes on the wall in front of them, contemplating the possibility of just… not answering. Maybe Cibele would have understood and shut up for good. It was an actual, plausible outcome. A blessed one indeed.
He liked it, so he lowered his head and continued reading.

Ten seconds passed by, you may be surprised to know, before Cibele spoke again.
“Uhm.” That made Serpico hold his breath. “Are you, like. Ignoring me?”
“No,” He didn’t bother to fight the fit of sarcasm that burned in his stomach. “Not at all. Why?”
“Just checking. You can really be a little bitch sometimes.”
Serpico’s eyelid twitched a bit, making his eyelid flutter. The passage he was reading became a blurry line of ink, just unreadable, atrocious, unbearable, intolerable, insufferable, and maybe now he was thinking about Cibele and not the string of words he was reading, but he was sure if he actively thought of his cousin he would have ended up beating the living shit out of him.
And now Cibele was making him swear too! The Saturday mass was becoming more and more of a disaster; now he just had to confess before going.

But he managed. Serpico slowly swallowed every bit of intolerance and let go of his highlighter. His white, clenched fist quickly reddened as he turned to face Cibele.
“You are being preposterous.” Serpico said, calmly. “And a real pain. We have to see each other once a year for a week and somehow you manage to be the sole reason I go to therapy before Christmas holidays. Do you think that, since you’re being finally older than a stupid, tiny baby, you can manage to just shut the fuck up for once?”

Cibele chewed a bit.
“Wow,” he smiled. “The pussy said fuck.”
