Hi so I’ve been wanting to talk about this for the longest time but I was scared of being jumped
As long as you don’t steal from ANOTHER artist and don’t credit them, then yes it’s wrong
Some artists even allow tracing. For example, the creator of My Hero Academia -Hirokoshi - DOES allow fans to trace from his art and use them. I’ve seen many people with mha ocs trace his art to create their ocs as close to the Hirokoshi artstyle as possible.
Tracing is a very helpful tool to improve and get better at art. I’ve used 3d poses and pose references to trace before, and 1. It made me create pretty art 2. It helped me learn some proportions.
Is tracing bad? Well, depends on HOW you do it. If using reference pictures and tracing over real life people is bad then lock me up because I’m guilty. However if you trace from an artist that doesn’t like their art being traced and you don’t credit them, then yes that’s wrong don’t do that. But if you’re using it for improvement purposes then by all means go ahead.
However creating a whole CHANNEL to shit on an artist for tracing when 1. They’re just a kid/teen trying to create something 2. They aren’t tracing off other artists work (as far as I’ve seen) and it’s just reference images, then YOURE the fuckass.
Maybe YOURE the coward to call out someone on another channel.
“Even professional artists don’t trace!”
*loud incorrect buzzer* WRONGGGGGG
I’ve seen professional artists - people who’ve GRADUATED with an art degree from college, have worked in the animation industry and art industry with years of experience now in their mid to late 50’s - say they have always used references to trace. People HAVE to stop thinking art is raw. Art is never raw. No one has raw talent. It takes years of dedication and learning basic shit for you to even create something you can be proud of. Stop acting like everyone draws raw. They don’t. You want to create good art??? It’s normal for you to use a reference and even sometimes trace off that reference. The artist in particular being “called out” hasn’t even traced off another artist or even if they have, they haven’t not credited the artist.
It’s just Pinterest aesthetic reference images.

I don't think it's ok to trace without giving proper credit and source material. I do think it's bad and pretty wrong to copy someone else's idea and composition and never give proper credit.

And remember, what I'm about to say next is not to defend anyone. I still do believe the person in question was in the wrong for not giving credit. That is all valid and true.
