Last day in Iran… I feel rather emotional rn so I’m jst gonna ramble -

One thing I noticed so much as an Iranian who’s spent her entire life living in this country and experiencing all the common Iranian experiences we’ve all been through as a people, is that no matter what the world and shitty governments throw at us, we’re somehow always weirdly… happy? My dad has always told me: ایرانیا خودشون همیشه شادن تو هر شرایطی and well, he’s right.

No matter what happens to us as people, Iranians will still find a way to enjoy their time. With dancing, singing, going outside and enjoying whatever they have left. Maybe it’s because we know whatever they do they just can’t really crush us.

I come from a small town in the east Azerbaijan region and rarely come to Tehran anyway, but in the two days I’ve been here I’ve just been so shocked by everything it’s crazy 😭 it’s my شهرستانی reaction. But by god I swear… it makes me cry even looking around. Seeing how people find ways to demolish expectations and rules and to try to claw their way out of a cage this shitty government has made for them. For us. Sometimes, I just think of it and cry.

I cry because I mourn for this country and the roots I’ve grown here knowing I’m forced to cut them off again because I can’t stay here. And I know I have a privilege to live outside of the country (I’ve only been outside of Iran for 2 years anyway, other than that I’ve been born here and raised here till I was 14) but I just wonder if things could’ve just been different if history didn’t mark its way and we wouldn’t have fallen into this situation where the people of a nation - 80 million people with souls and stories to share - are forced to be in this cage where all they strive for is freedom.

I love my country despite what’s it’s been ruined into. I love it’s sky, its cities of history, it’s food, hell even its people. I simply cannot put my fist into the ground and rip away the roots grown into it. I can’t ever hate where I come from, and I can only hope for better days where the safety and happiness of all these wonderful people aren’t at risk everyday.

I love my friends here. I love my family here and all the memories I’ve made despite most being traumatic lol.

For a better Iran <3
