Most Iranians outside of Iran especially in America use “Persian” to sound fancy

Not because they want to say they’re Iranian but because in their eyes it sounds more royal and “westernised” since they associate it with Reza Shah and its Europeanisation

Most Iranians have this shame for being from the Middle East and when I mean most I mean the ones living outside of Iran

So they use the term “Persian” not for a generalized term but for a “look I was supposed to be more westernized but this is all we got to stay fancy so I’m gonna use this now”

The term Persian comes from the word Pars which is translated to Fars in modern day which is where the language Farsi comes in from. So basically the Fars provinces

Iran is a multi ethnical country with not just Fars/Persians but other ethnicities too

And it feels rather… idk how to say this but alienated??? Because of the racism everyone just has for each other in this country

in my own experience ive seen non iranian people recognise "persian" better.
it sounds dumb but when they hear "persian cat" and "persian this persian that" they get more accustomed to that and recognise it better😭

i agree with everything you say, but the literal meaning of persian is mostly lost now and people use it as a general term, with good intentions or bad intentions

For me I’ve honestly seen people only realize the language Persian and not the ethnicity Persian

When I say I speak Farsi they’re like what’s that so I say I speak Persian

But then there’s the whole explaining “I’m not Persian actually Iran is a multicultural country” so I just say I’m Iranian to be more broad 😭 I’ll only explain if someone asks if I’m Persian to which I say no
