Speaking of Mikage I like to put effort into my ocs even if I hate them so much so I’d like to give small facts and details about Mikage since most people seem to like her a lot ☹️

Mikage is genuinely lonely. She grew up lonely, not treasured by her family enough either. She genuinely just wanted friends and wanted to be cared for, but she wasn’t really invited to a lot of things due to her appearance maybe not matching with the fact that she’s a girl, or her family not being the wealthiest out there. Either way, she really just wanted friends. Thats why the Mirror Devil proposed the idea of making copies of her in return for something. Her blood, for example.

Mikage’s copies were her friends at first. They played with her, mimicked her and cared for her the way she wanted to be cared for, but after some point they started to wonder if this was really them. Imposter syndrome quickly became a key factor here. Literally. They started to wonder if their actions were really their actions or if it was entirely based off of Mikage. Hence the reason they turned against her and want to take over her.

Other than the imposter syndrome that slowly evolved to a new problem of addiction to drugs due to the grooming Makima did, there’s also the body dysmorphia. Hell when I was first making her, I was really torn between what I wanted her to represent and be known as when it came to gender identity. Fully female design and attitude didn’t fit, fully male didn’t fit either, and not even nonbi fit 😭 so while thinking about it, I decided to a bit of all?? AFAB, yet she looks and acts like a guy and has male characteristics, which makes a middle ground.
She doesn’t appreciate being gawked at or called a man, but she puts up with it because of the privileges it gives her (let’s be honest, being a woman in Japan is a heavy duty in of itself 💀), so she went with the benefits it gave her. But the crippling body dysmorphia also represents discomfort in her own skin and body. She hasn’t had a single moment where she thought it was okay to look the way she does and still try to be feminine. She’s never had a safe space to ever express that.

Also with the occurring theme of grooming that often happens in csm - for most victims, it’s hard to ever be in a position where you find out you’re being groomed while actively being groomed. Most characters don’t see how Makima influences them, but for Mikage it’s a bit different. The drugs Makima makes her take have put her into a situation where she can’t stop even if she wants to, so she gets led to the fact that she’s being used and destroyed at the same time, yet can’t do anything to fight against it. She actively knows and anticipates, but can’t stand up for herself the way she wants to.

She’s deemed unhinged and a psycho by most, often getting passed around from division to division, but it’s not like she wants to be like this either. Sometimes, people build up walls that are too high that even they can’t climb up them anymore so they’re stuck in this cage they built for themselves. All they need is kindness and care. And she’s like that
