For what am I without my homeland?
A pomegranate without the seeds, as no more patterns of red fill the canvas.
A mosque without its tiles, leaving only an empty space of nothingness.
A cup of tea with no flavour. No sugar cubes, no dates, no saffron.
I am but a carpet with no patterns. No flowers, no cypress’s, no stars and no meanings. Only a canvas of red, a canvas of blood.
An empty tomb of a poet, with no grand garden full of memories and nostalgia.
The narrow streets of shops, with no scent of turmeric and ginger, of damask roses, nor of incense. Hidden away, never to be felt.
For without my homeland, I’m devoid of anything worth living. Worth being. Worth feeling. For without my homeland, I’m nothing.
