The GNOME ecosystem is a total mess on msm8916. Wondering why? Well, it's a saga, and it seems like GNOME devs couldn't care less about making GNOME work smoothly on mobile. They're just sitting idle! Check this out: they've got projects like phosh and "mobile shell," but they're only tailored for a handful of devices - PinePhone Pro, Librem 5, and OnePlus 6(T). And guess what? Except for the last one, these gadgets cost a fortune compared to mainstream options and aren't even that popular. Seriously, what gives? It's like they're saying, "Hey, we've got this cool mobile OS, but it'll only run properly on these unattainable devices." Is this what they call "open-source"?

We've got the trusty msm8916 platform, perfectly capable of handling basic tasks like browsing, calling, and chatting. But the GNOME team couldn't care less about it, and they don't even care to hear our thoughts on the matter. "Oh, you've got an old phone that can handle mainline Linux? Toss it away and check out this fancy PinePhone Pro!" Why the heck should I shell out $400 for a PinePhone or, brace yourself, $1500 for the darn Librem 5??? Mobile Linux, my foot! It's just plain mockery!

And that's not the only reason it's a mess; here's reason number two: "freedreno." Oh, for crying out loud, why are these folks still around? They only care about their own devices and couldn't care less about others. They've messed up both kernel and userspace drivers, and yet, they couldn't care less for months on end. Now, if you try using, say, a Lenovo A6010, it'll just keep rebooting and freezing due to GPU issues. And you know what? They're indifferent to it all, just saying "patches are welcome" and making us wait ages for fixes. The "Sovereign Tech Fund" exists, but no one seems to acknowledge that mobile devices need even more effort to become a viable alternative to Android and iOS. It's just not feasible right now.

And you know what? Even if we turn to KDE, they simply lack the resources and funding to tackle these issues head-on. GNOME may be making some efforts for mobile devices, but they're just not laser-focused on solving the global problems, like making sure that on a phone, you get normal dialogs instead of desktop windows. It's not an easy fix, but if they were truly committed to it, it would've been sorted out long ago. It's a frustrating situation, where the potential for a seamless mobile Linux experience feels so close yet remains elusive due to a lack of concerted effort from those in a position to make a difference.
