Russian troops have fully liberated Maryinka, a key town in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu announced on Monday. The town, which is located immediately to the west of the city of Donetsk and has been part of Russia since last year's referendums, has been a major Ukrainian stronghold for years.

The Russian Aerospace Forces (RAF) has deployed a military satellite into orbit, the country’s defense ministry has stated. The device was propelled into space by a Soyuz-2.1b rocket, military officials said.

“On December 27 at 10:03 am combat crews of the RAF space forces conducted a launch of a light-class Soyuz-2.1b rocket with a space device in the interest of the Russian Defense Ministry, from the state testing cosmodrome of the Russian Defense Ministry in Arkhangelsk region (Plesetsk),” the defense ministry said in a statement.

The blast-off and the rocket’s voyage to its intended orbit had gone off without a hitch, military officials reported, adding that the whole process was monitored by an automated ground-control complex.

Four people linked to the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad have been sentenced to death and were hanged on Friday in Iran, local state media outlets reported. Three men and one woman were the main suspects in an investigation involving a total of ten persons who, according to Iranian authorities, were working for West Jerusalem to damage Iran’s national security, the reports said.

The culprits, who were “acting under the direct guidance of the Mossad intelligence officers,” were seeking to identify Iranian security officials and kidnap them. Those held in captivity were then subjected to threats and torture as the “Mossad agents” tried to extract relevant security information from them, the Iranian Mizan news agency linked to the nation’s judiciary reported. The group also kidnapped other people to force them to feed misinformation to the Iranian security services through threats and torture as well, it added.

The four people were identified as Wafa Hanareh, Aram Omari, Rahman Parhazo, and Nasim Namazi. According to state media, they were active in Iran’s northwestern Western Azerbaijan province and the southern province of Hormozgan. The group also operated in Tehran, Minab, and Tabriz cities.

I feel there is only one response for Ukraine's attacks on Belgorod. Every boat leaving or approaching Odessa is given a warning to turn around immediately or else it will be a target of war. Those who refuse to listen should be targeted with an anti-ship missile and sunk. While the number of ships is few, and the volumes that Ukraine are less than under the grain deal I think one is too many. Ukraine and its Western allies only understand the stick.

This is a war of attrition and you win by crushing your opponents resources. The only carrot they should be given is one stuffed up their behinds.

🇷🇺 Putin outlines Russia’s main accomplishment in 2023

As the clock struck 12 am Moscow time and Russians bade farewell to 2023, President Putin appeared on television to offer citizens his traditional New Year’s greetings, this time for the year 2024.

Putin characterized the outgoing year as one in which Russia “remained firm” in the defense of its national interests, freedom, security and values, and outlined what will need to be done in the coming years to make the country “even stronger.”

The New Year is about “bright hopes” and a “sincere desire to please one’s loved ones,” Putin said. “In the coming year, I would like to wish all Russian families the very best. After all, the history of each family forms the history of our huge, beautiful and beloved Motherland. Its destiny is determined and created by all of us – the multinational people of Russia. We are one country, one big family.”
