𝗘𝗬𝗘𝗔 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁!
We were proud to participate in the panel discussion on “𝗖𝗮𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗝𝗼𝗯 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀: 𝗦𝗠𝗘𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗽𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁” at the Second Annual Capital Market Summit, represented by our President, Samiya Abdulkadir Godu.
During the session, she shared EYEA's experience supporting youth-led enterprises, including key lessons from the non-collateral loan scheme, which revealed both promising opportunities and persistent gaps in Ethiopia’s financing landscape. Although new financing mechanisms are emerging, many startups remain not yet investment-ready, largely due to limited technical preparation, market validation, and structured incubation.
In her remarks, she also underscored that unlocking capital market opportunities requires a collaborative, coordinated, and clearly aligned ecosystem, emphasizing that:
- Startups need strong product–market fit development before approaching investors.
- Policy alignment and clarity of mandates across institutions are crucial.
- Duplication of efforts among government and ecosystem actors reduces impact.
- Diversified capital market tools like equity, angel networks, venture financing, and crowdfunding must complement traditional loans.
This engagement directly relates to our 𝗘𝗬𝗘𝗔 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟳 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻, which prioritizes closing the identified investment readiness gap through enhanced technical incubation programs and focused policy advocacy. Our goal is to ensure the next generation of youth-led ventures is not only creative but fully structured to access the diversified capital market tools discussed at this summit, turning innovative ideas into sustainable, scale-ready businesses.
We continue to champion the belief that Ethiopian youth possess the talent, creativity, and ambition to build transformative ventures. What they require is a unified ecosystem that prepares them, supports them, and connects them to appropriate financing at the right stage.
We extend our sincere appreciation to the ECMA for the opportunity to contribute and share our perspective on strengthening access to finance for youth-led enterprises.
