Hey. Wanna learn with us?

Introducing #MAPArecommends. this is a series of weekly (perhaps monthly depending on capacity) recommendations on documentaries, podcast, books, videos you name it.

If you have a recommendation be sure to share it with me and I’ll send on the channel.
For the first series of “MAPA recommends”

I’m sharing with you a ted talk, an episode from an amnesty international podcast and a short documentary.

The documentary, Bliss of ignorance is about the impacts of a coal power plant on a South African community in Mphumalanga. It explains the trouble the community is facing from a respiratory health crisis to the struggle of fighting back with no yield.

The podcast; https://open.spotify.com/episode/6VBtqJebjibsKKiJsCKGrF?si=MYPG_nj3SgaVYGbBKrKBnQ&dl_branch=1

The podcast is from an amnesty investigator who received a call from Villagers from a village called Bodo in Nigeria that a shell facility had leaked oil (massively) he explains their fight for justice

And finally my last recommendation (the Ted talk) is by a famous African writer - you might have read her work - called Chimanda Ngozi Adichie. She talks about the danger of a single story. What damage can one angle/perspective have? She will also debunk the African myth of poverty:

That’s it for today on #MAPArecommends
Ps: forgive my horrible English

Good morning here's a nice introduction to the very complex concept of LandBack and settler-colonialism and how it's not just about ownership of land but deeply connected to the decolonization of our mind, of our relationships with each other and with nature, of our structures and systems. It also touches on how people from colonizer states need to participate and actively decolonize! It's time to unite and fight for the liberation of all and it starts with decolonizing our minds!

From the denoscription: "LandBack isn't about deporting white people. It's a path to a better future."

For today’s “/ #MAPArecommends “ I’m switching things up a little bit.

Today I’ll be sharing an interview featuring Nelson Mandela, a Human rights watch video on Israel and apartheid, an FAQ on the question of Palestine from slow factory

The interview with Nelson Mandela (Madiba) features some interesting talking points and his views on various issues like Capitalism, why he supported Yasser Arafat of Palestine , Gaddafi and Fidel Castro of Cuba( key American enemies) among other key questions
: https://youtu.be/DtDsmC2tIOQ

Reflect on Mandela’s words and line of thought and debunk it with an open mind.

The FAQ debunks key questions like;
- But Hamas?
- is the Palestinian liberation movement anti-Semitic
- the right of israel to exist as a state

And finally the human rights watch video on Israel being an apartheid state.

Hiii would it be ok to ask for some online support from u guys with our campaign around China's invasion of the West Philippine Sea 🥺 even just a tweet would be great!! Either as individuals or as an organization hehe

sample tweet:

I am [name] from [organization/country] and I stand with Filipino climate activists & people in the fight to defend the West Philippine Sea from China's aggression and invasion, in the face of inaction from the Duterte government! #SaveWestPhilippineSea @YACAPhilippines

(i added the tag so we can retweet you hehe also you can add the next tweet if you want to add context about the climate impacts of the issue)

The impacts of China's aggression include the destruction of coral reefs, and is motivated by the abundance of resources in the area, which includes fossil fuel deposits. Read more: https://yacap.org/2021/05/29/the-west-philippine-sea-is-a-climate-issue/

Learn from MAPA! Set up calls with MAPA and bring your questions about climate justice and social justice! (we will talk from our own experiences and perspectives)

Hello! if you want to do a campaign about MAPA or want to highlight MAPA voices on your group's social media more by asking us for posts or Instagram lives or whatever, please have a call with us first so we can talk to each other about the narrative and organize things together.

Please also set up a call with us for any strikes, events, campaigns or even talks, etc. that you might have about climate justice, reparations, intersectionality, etc. This way, for talks (if you really really really can't give the space up to MAPA), you're at least bringing our voices and amplifying us, and understanding a bit more where we're coming from and not talking for us when you have never even talked to us.

It's important that we have deeper conversations in order for non MAPA to really begin to understand the complexity of the injustices and resistance of MAPA.

*also, remember that MAPA isn't one entity, we have unique perspectives and experiences so talking to one person from MAPA isn't enough to learn about the entire MAPA

TLDR: don't talk about MAPA if you have never talked to MAPA or at the very least read stuff from our perspectives first and just amplify those sentiments. It's so so important that you listen and talk to us, and not just once, in order to really begin to understand how to show solidarity.
