URGENT CALL OUT: MEXICAN ENVIRONMENTAL DEFENDERS FACE 40 YEARS PRISON UNDER FABRICATED CHARGES

🚨 To all people, collectives and communities aware of environmental devastation, of the repression suffered by those of us who speak out, who fight for a world without inequality, for a dignified life, free from violence and oppression.

💦 Mexicalli Resiste has taken up the defense of water and territory as one of the most important struggles and is resisting against transnational company Constallation Brands that attempts to rob and destroy our sacred waters to make beer to sell in the USA.

✊🏽The community Cachillana has fought for more than 4years in defence of life and water. Now, they are trying to imprison us under fabricated charges of kidnapping and of ‘displacing’ the Congress during an occupation that occurred in 2017. Our compas and defenders are facing between 20-40years imprisonment because of these false and ridiculous accusations.

📣We demand that the government drops these absurd accusations and ends their repression of those who speak out. We are summoned to a hearing on August 10 and therefore require your support!

🗣CALL OUT

Please express your solidarity with our comrades, either with a video, a photograph, a painting, a drawing, a dance, a poster, a poem, a song, a rally, a march, a performance, an essay, a newspaper article, a mural, a cry, an embroidery ... whatever comes from his heart of solidarity ... Please we urge you to share your solidarity with us and include the hashtag #QueremosAguaYLibertad . International pressure is essential to help acquit our siblings from the corrupt governments that are trying to silence them.

We would particularly like videos or a photo with a poster calling for the Congress of Mexicalli to drop all charges against our siblings and comrades, León Fierro Resendiz, Tania Gallaga and Gabriela Aranguré.

You can send all these videos to this number (+4407495787923) or to aguaylibertad@outlook.com

WE STAND IN DEFENSE OF WATER AND LIFE!

OUR DEFENDERS WILL NOT BE SILENCED!
Costa Rica is close to banning oil and gas exploration and some additional international attention may help it get through Congress. Please share on social media if you can, hashtag is #CRLibredePerforación.

From some campaigners:

Costa Rica is potentially close to make history by banning oil and gas exploration and exploitation by law, but the decision is in the balance. Next Monday Congress will vote on sending the bill back for discussion and improvement. We hope this happens, since the bill does need improvement. If the bill is changed - then we have a real chance of it becoming law (that would happen in September). The call next Monday is close though! We still need to convince some members of Congress to give the bill a chance.

That is why we would like to ask you to amplify our message and cheer Costa Rica on to give the law for a permanent ban on exploration a chance.

Possible texts:

A country like Costa Rica could become the tipping point for many countries to forever ban drilling in their territories, getting us closer to actually achieving the world's energy transition goals. #CRLibredePerforación

#CostaRica is ready to send a powerful message to the world, by pushing to declare the country permanently free of gas and oil exploration and exploitation. I urge the country´s lawmakers to make the decision and take this important step #CRLibredePerforación

I am rooting for Costa Rica, which has long been a leader in clean energy and is continuing to promote a green and sustainable recovery out of the COVID crisis #CRLibredePerforación

#CostaRica is close to becoming one of the #FirstMovers that choose to #KeepitintheGround, by hopefully signing a bill that will permanently declare the country free of gas and oil exploration and exploitation #CRLibredePerforación

Costa Rica's economy has more to win by permanently declaring the country free of oil and gas exploration and exploitation by voting the current bill in Congress rather then falling backward #CRLibredePerforación

tw violence, murder, suicide ideations

Watch this 20 minute short film (with English subnoscripts) about the Tumandok massacre, where 9 members of the Tumandok indigenous people of the Philippines were tortured and killed by the Philippine army last December 30, 2020. The Tumandok people have been protesting against an environmentally-destructive mega dam project in their lands.

The Fossil fuels industry invisible colonisation of Academia.

The Fossil fuel industry has a big "spheres of influence" which aso acts as it's enablers from:

Government: taking the example of Greenpeace's unearthed recent exposé on Exxon on the US senators - Both democrats and republicans - They have been working with to progress their agendas into legislation. "Exxon says it's not illegal" - I mean lobbying from them isn't and maybe that's the problem?

- taking example of many government formed climate boards that look good but behind it the members have ties and links to the big oil companies or their shell organisations/groups/coalitions.

UNFCCC - which publicly on their website lists key fossil fuel companies as their funders.

Banks - SCB, HSBC etc
Academia - read article below but also many ivy league schools are investing in the Fossil fuel industry but also some of their activities and theories they teach or courses their sponsor need to be reexamined.

Hello there.

Today we recommend that you read oil politics by community leader and activist Nnimmo Bassey from Nigeria.
The book is compilation of essays, papers and his works on the situation of shell in Nigeria which is a sysmptom of a whole greater issue of the fossil fuel industry and its sphere of influence.

It paints a damming picture of shell UK and It’s subsidiary Shell Nigeria, how fucking useless the is etc
Assata Shakur said it well - "Any people seriously concerned with it's won freedom has to be concerned with the freedom of others too.
Your daily reminder that:

The US has bombed Somalia three times in the last two weeks.
IPCC will release their new climate report tomorrow, August 9, to shed light on our increasingly volatile climate.

They have been doing this for decades now, and the conclusion remains the same: we must act now. People all over the world are already being impacted, and still world leaders are acting like there is no emergency.

Listen to the science, listen to the people! Climate justice now!

TW: mention of suicide.

In 1904, Ota Benga was kidnapped from Congo, and taken to America and exhibited at the Bronx Zoo in the monkey house.

He suffered inhumane treatment and ended up committing suicide 12 years later.

This system that treats people of color like animals and leaves them behind and exploits them is the root of the system we see today that signals to Global North leaders that it's okay if MAPA is being hit by the climate crisis already, it's okay if carbon capture plans they have displaces Indigenous Peoples, it's okay if renewable energy plans they have involve child labor in Global South countries. This is the system we fight against, the same profit-oriented racist system that brought us to the climate crisis cannot bring us out of it. We must fight for a world that leaves no one behind.
