But, international research and policy bodies, and ‘hot lists’ of influential climate scientists, rarely include African scientists. With United Nations climate talks set to take place in the United Kingdom in November, Selly Amutabi and Michael Kaloki ask whether African science can influence these critical international negotiations. global north countries have contributed the most to the climate crisis whilst global south countries are bearing the brunt of it. Now, global south countries need climate finance that will contribute to climate adaptation and mitigation measures. Global north countries (Annex 1 countries - according to the UNFCCC) are to contribute 100 Billion USDs each year that are to go to support global south countries ( Annex 2 countries) but this amount is supposed to be paid back.

No more repression against the Q'eqchi' people

The Q'eqchi' people of northern Guatemala demand an end to the violence against the ancestral authorities and communities of El Estor, Izabal, who have been protesting against the CGN mining company for more than two weeks.

The population in resistance demands the inclusion of the Q'eqchi' indigenous authorities -legitimately recognized by the communities- to participate in the pre-consultation process ordered by the Constitutional Court and ratified in Convention 169 of the International Labor Organization (ILO) on the importance of including indigenous communities in this type of consultations and processes that directly affect their own way of life, organization and spirituality.
