⚡️SAVE THE DATE : Join the Marsh drop EACOP social media action Tuesday June 28 ⚡️

What: The #StopEACOP campaign, Insure Our Future campaign and FFF Uganda are organising a digital action demanding that global insurance broker Marsh drop the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP).

📆 When: Tuesday June 28 (If you can’t participate on June 28th, please join the action until July 1st ideally)

Why now: Pressure is building within Marsh. More than 100 employees of Marsh McLennan, Marsh’s parent company, signed a letter urging the company not to broker insurance for EACOP, saying the project would have “disastrous consequences” for the climate*.

On June 30, Marsh will have an internal leadership event on sustainability, during which employees are prepared to ask about the company’s decision to support EACOP.

Now is a key moment to put international pressure on Marsh to ask them to drop EACOP. There is precedent for Marsh walking away from projects and now is the time for them to walk away from EACOP.

To achieve this, we need to increase public pressure on them and we need you to take action with us.

Background: A recent investigation* revealed that Marsh, the world’s biggest insurance broker, is responsible for finding insurers for the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP), the world’s longest heated oil pipeline.

All fossil fuel projects such as EACOP need insurance to move forward. Without insurers willing to cover the risks of EACOP, the developers will likely struggle to raise the funds they need from banks and investors. Already, 20 banks have committed not to fund EACOP.

EACOP will need multiple layers of insurance for the construction phase to move forward, but Total/CNOOC, the pipeline constructors, haven’t found insurers willing to cover it yet. Thanks to the #StopEACOP and Insure Our Future campaign efforts, 8 insurers have committed not to support EACOP. As the broker, Marsh will be in charge of approaching insurers and convincing them to underwrite EACOP.

👊How to participate:

✔️Join the action on Tuesday June 28. Take a selfie photo with your sign saying “Marsh, drop EACOP”. On the bottom corner of your sign add in parenthesis the name of the country you are taking action from. Post your solidarity action selfie on social media channels (Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook) using #MarshdropEACOP. All the details & key messages will be in this toolkit* that you can access on Monday.

✔️Share the invitation to participate in this digital action with your network and friends. The more participation, the bigger the impact.

✔️Send Marsh an email asking them to drop EACOP (the email tool will be in the toolkit).

📆SAVE THE DATE and join us next Tuesday. It takes no more than 15 minutes.

💚Please share this call to action with as many people and networks as you can. Stand in solidarity with people on the frontlines fighting EACOP and demanding climate justice. Join us next week.

Hello everyone! Today in Indonesia, we do strike to one of state owned bank named BNI (National Bank of Indonesia). We demand BNI to stop funding coal companies and follow the other state owned bank to start funding renewable energy companies in Indonesia. If you can sign this petition

It would be very helpful! Thank you!

Hello everyone! We still need your support to stop BNI (National Bank of Indonesia) from funding coal companies and dropping out Indonesia from the 3rd largest coal exporteur in the world.

Here's the link again!

Thank you for signing! And please do share this to your folks!
Yesterday's decision by the European union to that considered Fossil Gas as ''Green'' sent shock waves across the globe because it happened at a time when countries within the EU are moving to global south countries to extract gas.

Germany's Olaf Scholz for instance is already in discussions with Senegal's Marky sall to sign gas extraction deals.
In Kenya (British Oil company Tullow Oil is set to begin extraction in the next few years)

Huge questions like what does this mean for the communities where this gas will be mined and the transportation lines will pass through?
what does this mean for Africa's ability to shift to renewable energy?

As we reflect on the next steps forward - read this piece by Kenya's Mohammed Adow

A piece on pragmatism and realism

People march in the streets demanding the end of fossil fuel energy so that we might head off another mass extinction. The wise, realistic leaders explain that this sort of fairy tale goal is not reasonable. The outcome will be another mass extinction.

People march in the streets demanding stricter gun control, so that they are not shot when they go to school. Moderates in the Senate explain that such bills are not viable, but perhaps there is a small, symbolic compromise to be had somewhere. The outcome will be that more kids are shot in schools.

People march in the streets to ask that some of the money we spend on police be spent instead on social services, so that people in crisis might have someone to call on other than men with guns who take them to jail. Political consultants explain that such ideas poll poorly, and must be rejected with great force. The outcome will be the continuation of the failed attempt to deal with all social problems at gunpoint.
