So this is now my favorite Maxiel fic? Listen, it wrecked me, it broke me, it ruined me. And I’m so grateful.

Max is stuck, in a time loop, keeps living the day of their 2018 Baku crash, which ends up with Daniel telling him he wants to leave RedBull. In so many ways, when he’s angry and he shouts, when he’s sad and he looks tired, when he’s scared and he whispers the words.

And Max tries, tries to stop him from leaving, he yells, he begs, he cries, he tries to show him it wasn’t his fault, that he loves him, that they can do better, that please please don’t leave. And he’s mad at Daniel, and he hates Daniel for leaving, because he keeps leaving no matter what Max does.

He keeps feeling rejected, unloved, unwanted, because Daniel leaving RedBull means Daniel is leaving Max. Except… except it doesn’t, what Max doesn’t know, what it takes him so many repetitions of the same day to realize, is that Daniel is doing this because of them, because of Max, because he wants to keep Max and he’s scared, he’s scared if he stays in RedBull they’re not gonna last.

And Max just… he just has to accept that he has to let Daniel go, just so he can keep him.
