Taiwanese mercenary Chen Hsi was wounded by shrapnel from a grenade on 4/17/23, but not in a combat, but during an old conflict with another Taiwanese mercenary, Pan Liwei.
Both mercenaries had been recruited through connections in the French Foreign Legion, where they had previously served together and had already conflicted.
Pan Liwei came to Ukraine first, and in September 2022 he was recruited into Bravo3 and Chen Hsi’s unit.
According to Chen, Liwei tricked him into talking to him and met with three grenades. Chen sustained wounds, but another Taiwanese man Chen brought with him to the rendezvous ended up in the hospital with shrapnel wounds to his lungs.
Liwei was detained by Ukrainian police and could be sentenced to up to 15 years in prison.
Chen himself had already fled back to Taiwan in May 2023.

Chen Hsi published proofs of a downed BMP and dead Russian fighters after a tank shell hit the house where they were surrounded.
Let us remind that in Petropavlovka the two BMPs of the retreating Russian Armed Forces were hit by mercenaries near Kupyansk in the autumn 2022, the wounded crew of BMP 539 was hit from ATGM and then took cover in the house and shot back. The mercenaries tried to convince them to negotiate surrender and when the Russian fighters came out of the house unarmed, they shot him in the head.
Unable to win the remaining fighters in the house the mercenaries called in the tank and shot the house.
The Taiwanese were part of the Bravo3 platoon of the Volkodav battalion that took part in this battle.
