VeilView
Sharp's proprietary VeilView technology intentionally limits the viewing angles so that anyone looking from the side sees nothing but a geometric pattern, while the display remains readable to the phone's owner. It's designed to prevent prying eyes from reading over your shoulder in crowded subways, and many Japanese people buy screen protection films for their phones that includes similar functionality. Enabling VeilView significantly lowers the contrast of the display when looked at head-on, and the pattern is still slightly viewable, but it does achieve its goal of making text and images only really readable to the primary user of the phone. It could be useful in certain situations for those concerned about privacy, and it's easily switched on or off via the notification bar — a lot more convenient than constantly applying and removing an adhesive film.
Good viewing angles if you want them
