New name for the Functionland Box: FxBlox

We never intended “Box” to be the final name for our product. “Box” was more of a placeholder, inspired by the product’s form and its function as a storage space for data, apps and everything else people hold dear in their virtual lives.

Our community, suggested more than 200 novel names. We liked many of the suggestions and it was difficult to choose one, 4 different members of our community suggested Blox and we loved it! It stands for Blockchain Box, it is simple and intuitive of what we are trying to achieve! After much consideration, we have added “Fx” to “Blox” to make it unique as our flagship product.

We are thrilled to announce that the first Blockchain-Attached Storage has a new name: FxBlox!

The DevKit is our hardware prototype, an 8-layer printed circuit board (PCB). The PCB is a scaled down FxBlox with the full functionality of an actual FxBlox (due to ship later this year).

📝 Why We Invested in Functionland

“Our Box is really the first physical vestige of Web3,” said Keyvan M. Sadeghi (CEO and Co-founder, Functionland). “For a small initial investment, Box allows people to save money, own and control their own data, and become part of the network, rather than pay monthly for that right. It’s also the first open-source monetization platform in the industry to reward independent software developers. It’s a step toward democratizing the internet while improving the way the internet works for us – individual users – all over the world.”

As we continue to build out the infrastructure that makes up the Open Metaverse, it is necessary to provide customers with products that compete with established Web2 services that they have become accustomed to. One of these ubiquitous protocols is cloud storage. The ability to store photos, documents, and other data in the cloud is something users expect.
