Thoughts after a rewatch.
Just did a binge watch of all 8 seasons and a couple of things stuck out to me.
1. I remember having an issue with what felt like people traveling at fast speeds from place to place in the later seasons. Upon rewatch, this was a thing in the early seasons as well. In the first episode alone we see Jamie and Cersei in Kings Landing and a few scenes later they arrive in Winterfell. Yes, there was offscreen passage of time but the same can be said for the later seasons too. And this was only one example of many. 1.5 episodes later they are back in Kings Landing.
2. Instead of thinking of seasons 7 and 8 as two shorter seasons, I went in pretending season 7 was the final season of 13 long episodes. It felt so much more epic and fitting overall. I think the hype and delay of season 8 made it so that nothing would meet expectations. Had season 7 been a final epic long 13 episode season upon release it would have hit much harder.
3. Danys turn at Kings Landing could be seen from a mile away this time. For multiple seasons characters in the show saw it coming, warned people to see reason and they weren’t heard. It wasn’t out of the blue, it was built up for several seasons. I found myself at times wondering why no one was doing anything and why people were just letting it happen when almost everyone knew she would do this at a certain point.
Anyway these were just a couple of things that stood out to me. It was a super enjoyable binge and the show played out so much better than I remember, including how it ended and wrapped up. I still have nitpicks, but that’s really all they are - nitpicks.
