🕵️‍♂️ Rockstar’s Agent: The Spy Game That Never Worked

For years, Agent was Rockstar’s great mystery. A Cold War spy thriller meant to push the studio beyond GTA and Red Dead Redemption. After eleven years in development, it was finally canceled.

Dan Houser recently explained why. In an interview with Lex Fridman, he said they tried several versions of an open-world spy game, but none ever worked.

What makes spy stories great as films makes them not work as video games.

He may be right. Espionage depends on tension and precision, while open worlds rely on freedom and chaos. Once a player can drift away from the mission, the suspense disappears.

Games like Hitman, Alpha Protocol and Deus Ex succeed because they confine you. Agent wanted to be James Bond in a world designed for mayhem, and that contradiction doomed it.

Houser admits he still thinks about Agent. Maybe one day someone will finally figure it out. Until then, the dream of the perfect open-world spy game stays locked away.

⚖️ Nintendo’s U.S. patent gets reexamined after public backlash

The head of the U.S. Patent Office has taken the rare step of reopening Nintendo’s patent for “summoning a subcharacter to fight in two modes,” citing prior art from Konami (2002) and even Nintendo itself (2019).

The move comes after widespread criticism that Nintendo was abusing the system to target Palworld and claim ownership over basic game mechanics. 💥

🎮 The Lost Trevor DLC That Never Was

Dan Houser finally confirmed it: Rockstar was building a single-player DLC for GTA 5 where Trevor became a secret agent. It was halfway done before they scrapped it to focus on Red Dead Redemption 2.

Some of its content likely ended up in GTA Online’s Doomsday Heist, but fans never got the chaos-meets-espionage story they wanted.

Maybe Rockstar just got too busy counting their GTA Online cash 💸

🎮 Steam’s “Monopoly” Isn’t the Problem

72% of devs call Steam a monopoly, but that’s missing the point. Steam isn’t a monopoly because it crushes competitors. It’s a monopoly because everyone else sucks.

Epic tried buying loyalty, Amazon tried copying it, and both failed. Steam earned its spot by building trust, convenience, and a platform that just works.

Sure, power concentration is risky, but gamers chose it for a reason. If that’s a monopoly, it’s the rare kind built on competence, not control. 💡

🎮 The UK Parliament debated the Stop Killing Games campaign, and the government said no change is coming.

Players asked for laws to stop publishers from deleting games people already paid for, calling it a matter of digital ownership and cultural preservation. But the government insisted that games are “licensed services,” not owned products, and said making changes would be too complex and risky.

The result might just be a warning label saying “this game could be shut down anytime.”

It’s strange that in 2025 you still own a book you buy, yet a digital game can vanish overnight.

The government’s full response to the Video Games: Consumer Law debate can be found in full here.

💥 Samsung froze DDR5 contracts and sent the memory market into chaos.

Spot prices tripled in a month as SK Hynix and Micron followed, and suppliers are running dry. DDR5 chips could reach $30 each while AI giants buy up everything.

If you plan to build a PC, catch a deal this Black Friday or wait until 2027.

⚙️ The memory supercycle has started, and it’s not on your side.

🚨 An anonymous Rockstar employee claims over 30 veteran devs were fired after discussing unionization in a private Discord.

All were union members, allegedly dismissed under “gross misconduct” with no evidence or representation.

Just a week earlier, the group had reached the legal threshold for union recognition.

🎮 Rockstar says it was about Discord. Employees say it was about fear.

🎮 Steam is winning because it’s not trash.

That’s what Michael Douse, publishing director at Larian Studios (Baldur’s Gate 3), said when asked why Valve dominates PC gaming.

He hinted that success comes from serving players, not shareholders, and that most competitors fail because they chase KPIs instead of building a good service.

While some devs call Steam a monopoly, users call it something simpler: reliable.

😐 A marketing agency just bragged online about faking “organic” Reddit hype for War Robots: Frontiers.

They admitted posting over 40 fake “I found this game…” threads and GIFs across major subreddits to make it look like real players were discovering it. The result? 750,000 impressions, 1,500 installs… and a glimpse at how deep the manipulation goes.

This isn’t new..., just more blatant. When even small studios are running coordinated astroturfing campaigns, imagine what the big ones are doing.

🧠 The internet’s no longer about opinions. It’s about operations.

🎮 The Outer Worlds 2 really surprised me

What was expected to be “just more of the same” turned out to be Obsidian’s best RPG in years: massive planets, deeper builds, hilarious side quests, and combat that actually feels great.

💬 It feels like the best Bethesda-style RPG in 15 years, with tighter writing, smarter systems, and a tone that finally hits the right balance.

If you miss that New Vegas-style charm but want modern gameplay, this is it.

🎮 Roblox banned a YouTuber for exposing predators. Now it wants him back.

After months of silence, Roblox contacted Schlep, the creator who ran sting operations to catch predators on its platform, to discuss a possible return. The move came after public backlash, lawsuits from several U.S. states, and a sharp drop in its stock.

Schlep says he refused, claiming the issue was never about his ban but about Roblox’s lack of safety measures for minors. The company insists his actions violated its rules against impersonation and entrapment, while critics argue the ban silenced efforts to expose ongoing child safety failures.

This was never about me getting unbanned. It was about the victims, the players, the community that has been neglected forever.

🎮 How much does it cost to make a game?

A new analysis of 100,000 Steam noscripts exposes how wide the budget gap really is:

💰 Average budgets (2022–2025)
➡️Indie (Kei): $65K
➡️Midi: 14x higher
➡️AA: 33x higher
➡️AAA: up to $700M (Black Ops: Cold War), nearly 9x Spider-Man: Miles Morales

⚙️ Engines
Godot surged after Unity’s pricing fiasco. Unreal dominates big projects while open-source and custom engines fill the edges.

🎨 2D vs 3D: 3D games cost 16x more
👥 Multiplayer: only 16% of games but half of those above $10M
🏢 Publishers: increase budgets 3–4x, often less efficiently

Game development now costs more than Hollywood blockbusters. Making games has become both art and financial warfare.

🎨 Black Ops 7 is packed with AI art and players are calling it trash

Black Ops 7 just dropped and fans already spotted AI art everywhere. Posters in missions, textures, Calling Cards, even Prestige icons. All machine-generated.

This is a billion-dollar franchise charging 70 dollars for assets that look like quick prompts. Some Calling Cards have warped faces and messy “Ghibli-style” filters. Prestige rewards look over-designed and inconsistent.

Players are asking the obvious: why pay premium for AI slop?
If the biggest FPS series won’t hire artists, everyone loses.

🇺🇸 A Congressman Just Called Out CoD7’s AI Art

Ro Khanna says Activision is using AI to cut artists and boost profits. He wants rules to protect creative jobs and even talks about taxing mass automation.

Activision admits using AI tools, but players are still angry after spotting tons of AI images across Black Ops 7.

The real debate now isn’t if CoD uses AI. It’s who pays the price.
