I think it’s worth taking a moment to appreciate all the non technical work that goes behind this announcement.
The KDE e.V. and broader ecosystem is mature enough to develop working relationships with a major vendor, and keep working with them!
Congrats to the whole @kde@floss.social ecosystem for these massive news again!

Cat's out of the bag:
FEX, an emulator I've been working on these past 4 years, is going to be part of the Steam Frame to bring x86 Windows games to an ARM Linux VR headset! 😊

Really happy to have been part of the journey and of the team that got FEX to where it is today. Can't wait for the release and community reception!

🇮🇹 Ieri i governi UE hanno rifiutato modifiche al #ControlloChat di massa & ai controlli d'età che annullano l'anonimato. Gli ambasciatori UE approveranno a breve.

Google is starting to retreat on its "developer government ID verification" plan, thank goodness.
But the devil will be in the detail, and Google's positioning that wanting to install software on your own device makes you a "power user" is concerning.
The notion that you need to be an "experienced user" to use @fdroidorg@floss.social, for instance, is nonsense.
But still: keeping up the pressure appears to be working. A little.

Google is 'inspired' yet again by GrapheneOS.
We are so far ahead and this shows how far behind the curve Android 17 is with this, we had it implemented on Android 13 in May 2023.

Quick reminder on the likely reason why Valve's New Steam Machine only supports #HDMI 2.0:
""At this time an open source HDMI 2.1 implementation is not possible without running afoul of the HDMI Forum requirements.""
This is what Alex Deucher, the maintainer of the amdgpu #kernel driver, said one and a half years ago here:
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/amd/-/issues/1417#note_2303163
And from the ticket it looks like the problem remains.
See also Alex's earlier comment from early 2021 in the ticket:

Just received a link from a random PR agency and realized it's to their own, self-hosted Nextcloud. Sample size of 1, but I think something is slowly happening :)

🇪🇺✅ SUCCESS: We've prevented mandatory #ChatControl through the back door!🎉 A big win & THANKS to everyone! 🙏
But ⚠️: Anonymity-breaking age checks & "voluntary" mass scanning are still planned. The fight continues next year!

Our users asked many questions about Chat Control, as discussions were restarted in the EU this week.
SimpleX Chat is an open-source app where users control the code and the servers they use.
Therefore it is impossible to implement any client-side scanning, and it will not happen. (1/2)

If the law is passed, two options are possible:
- we might need to stop offering preset servers to the EU users.
- we will not need to change anything - this is the most likely outcome.
Our operations are always consistent with our Privacy Policy (https://simplex.chat/privacy), and we would rather shut down than do anything that contradicts this agreement with our users. (2/2)

The Linux circlejerk has a "Great Man/Company theory" problem.
Every time there is an issue, they all go around clinging to the one company that "finally" will put some resources into fixing them. Endlessly hyping them up and elevating them to a deity status.
It happened with Canonical in the past and how it was "single handedly fixing GNOME".
More recently its Valve and how "they have graced us with gaming and fixing Wayland"
Like sure I appreciate everyone, but its a team effort you know.
