If the end goal for these companies is to end consumer access to computing technologies only to sell them as services, like how the housing market has been going for a long time, then we need government regulation more than ever to prevent that. Representative governments should not be allowing consolidization of corporations, especially with such dependent offerings, to monopolize entire industries because it is a hazard to public development and maintainability. Outside of govs blocking deals and prosecuting top level executives for collusion, the employees would need to rise up and starve the beast of air to put an end to it. That is a harder and riskier route. Consumer boycotts won't work. Greed is a powerful enemy.

In the end, we may get the Cyberpunk future that some of us wanted.

It’s absolutely true that AI is reducing jobs, but not like you think. AI is not *doing* those jobs instead of people, AI speculation is redirecting *investment* away from job-creating businesses to capital-intensive businesses.

Yesterday, vulnerabilities were published https://gpg.fail but they don't affect #deltachat or other #chatmail clients because

A) We never used #gnupg for anything; we use the modern #rustlang #openpgp implementation @rpgp@mastodon.social, security audited multiple times.

B) #openpgp is fine, as modernized in #RFC9580, which already warns against several #gpgfail issues (gpg didn't implement that spec)

When ChatGPT was released 3 years ago I never anticipated how it could become a source of tensions with people in my life.

So to add to its many damages, it's a source of:

- environmental catastrophe
- economic bubble
- monumental job losses with bosses leaning into AI and laying off workers
- loss of critical thinking
- destruction of higher ED methods
- further isolation with people using AI characters as "romantic partners"
- dangerous medical advice (especially with reliance on it for mental health support)

(I'm probably forgetting other important things)

AND:

source of tensions inside homes and with friends when you have a person critical of AI (🙋‍♀️​) attempting to reason with a person whose default setting is: "I'll ask ChatGPT". Pointing out flagrant mistakes by AI seems to make their heads explode and get angry at the messenger. Ouf.

Except you can add /var/lib/flatpak/exports/bin to your $PATH. This way, you can type com.example.Application in your terminal, dmenu, everywhere. Also if you aren't using completions and insist on doing everything in the terminal, you have bigger problems.
