Well, it’s been long enough now, it’s about time for a story.

At my last job, I worked on a smartwatch for kids. The idea is it’s a legit phone with a SIM, they can’t lose it (it’s on their wrist), there’s no apps, they can’t call/text in or out except to parent-approved contacts, and it keeps track of their location just in case. It’s a workaround to school phone bans for paranoid parents.

When I say we were the only product on the market that gave a shit for the security of children’s data, I really mean we were the ONLY one. We came from selling services to schools - having security correct the first time is the default. There’s no reason you ever skip security, unless you want to immediately lose all contracts and set fire to your reputation forever.

The competitors though - they were non-technical outfits that didn’t appreciate the security/legal concerns of handling the data of minors. Legitimately, so many of the competing products were very opaquely repurposed Chinese 3G car ...

... trackers. Early reviews of some of them show the child appearing *AS A CAR* on the map. Or, it shows their “speed”. Bare minimum things they could have changed to appear more legit.

Where are the @matrix@mastodon.matrix.org admins? Where are the moderation tools?

Your silence on NSFL content flooding your instance speaks volumes. It is clear you do not value user safety.

Admins from other instances have resorted to de-federating from matrix.org and channel moderators have to use bots to block all images as a crutch for the missing moderation tools.

This situation is unacceptable, and I lay blame squarely at the Matrix Foundation's feet for allowing this to go on for over a month.
