Developers, please be careful when installing Homebrew. Google is serving sponsored links to a Homebrew site clone that has a cURL command to malware. The URL for this site is one letter different than the official site.

Note: Google allows the ad sponsors to specify an URL that will be displayed on the ad (original brew.sh here), but the click takes you to the malware domain brewe.sh.

Bambu doesn’t respect you enough to even lie to your face. Instead, they silently edited their article about the new auth system, blamed users for not understanding something they didn’t explain, AND seemingly told archive.org to delete the snapshot that was being shared around. This is incredibly low.

Too bad for them, archive.is doesn’t do takedowns. The internet doesn’t forget.

The community around Louis Rossmann’s new wiki wrote up an excellent summary with receipts for everything. Bambu walked into such perfect timing for this. https://wiki.rossmanngroup.com/wiki/Bambu_Lab_Authorization_Control_System

The annoying nerds who said you should install Linux, use decentralised social media, use Signal secure messenger were right.

Control of our own computing is a prerequisite for freedom.

The internet *is* real life.
Sabot in the Age of AI

Here is a curated list of strategies, offensive methods, and tactics for (algorithmic) sabotage, disruption, and deliberate poisoning.

🔻 iocaine

The deadliest AI poison—iocaine generates garbage rather than slowing crawlers.

🔻 Nepenthes

A tarpit designed to catch web crawlers, especially those scraping for LLMs. It devours anything that gets too close. aaron@chirp.zadzmo.org

🔻 Quixotic

Feeds fake content to bots and robots.txt-ignoring #LLM scrapers. marcusb@mastodon.sdf.org

🔻 Poison the WeLLMs

A reverse-proxy that serves diassociated-press style reimaginings of your upstream pages, poisoning any LLMs that scrape your content. mike@mikecoats.social

🔻 Django-llm-poison

A django app that poisons content when served to #AI bots. Fingel@indieweb.social

Revolut is specifically banning GrapheneOS by checking for the build machine hostname and username being set to grapheneos. We've changed these to build-host and build-user. Combined with another change, this allow our users to log in to it again until they roll out Play Integrity API enforcement.
A chat server running on powerful hardware collapsing when handling more than 100 events per second isn't acceptable. Events scale up based on room activity from non-local users including spammers too. It's an issue for a server with 12 users too.

Wow, a single comment questioning dansup@mastodon.social and I was immediately blocked, not even a discussion man? really?

their choice to keep calling loops "open source" while the code is closed, as well as the recent post about hiding federation features behind extra menus so all new users auto-signup to services controlled by him, is concerning for genuine reasons (although I'm sure he's already called me a troll or something)

This combined with the comments/jokes about "exploring" advertising for the loops platform is highly concerning, here you have somebody siphoning users into a single server they control, while developing an app they call open source without any code being available, who also thinks advertisements are a reasonable business model for the fediverse...

We could have just spoken about your views on this, but I suppose my ideas about FOSS and no advertising were too threatening lol

Think twice, or thrice, about actually signing up and supporting #Pixelfed or #Loops while dansup is behind them tbh
Normalize this

(Updated: I changed Twitter to X and User to Profile. I intentionally left out Bluesky because their approach to profile naming doesn't fit this paradigm and precedent.)

Anyone here witnessed/seen hour+ unskippable ads on #YouTube? Yes, you read that right. Supposedly, Google is only showing this to some users it suspects of using an adblocker.

We all know how #Google has become increasingly hostile towards adblocking technologies in the last couple years… but if this is true - and not some sort of bug - geez… doesn’t help they neither confirm or deny it in the news sources I’ve seen.
