We used to look closely at #whatsapp Usability/UX. Not anymore.

Meta is enshittifying WA to become a social media app, charging companies for access to followers, showing ads, and pushing AI slop down the throat of billions of people.

#deltachat remains all about pleasing private messaging UX. Resilient, secure and decentralized. Its trivial to get started as a family, group or little org. Its trivial to migrate between android, iphone, desktop, Ubuntu touch.

#Bluetooth was a mistake: Millions of Bluetooth headphones can potentially be turned in eavesdropping devices. Best-seller #Sony and #Bose #headphones are affected by at least some of the disclosed flaws among many others. The true dimension of these flaws is yet unknown as the the vulnerable component is very widely in use under different names.

Reality is more grim and deranged than the most unthinkable conspiracy theories.

Using "AI" is no longer optional at Microsoft. Reminds me how when Meta had to force their engineers to use their "Metaverse" product.

If your product doesn't even gain traction internally, maybe it's just ... shit?

(Original noscript: ‘AI is no longer optional’ — Microsoft admits AI doesn’t help at work)

thanks audacity for greeting me with a cloud service

Microsoft "asking" you to buy a 365 subnoscription after every update with the only options being "remind me in X days" or "take my money" is only materially worse than apple deciding that I'm not allowed to use macOS after the latest update without A) being connected to the internet, and B) setting up their stupid BETA applet with the only other option being "later".

Neither of these companies are your friend. Neither deserves your respect, nor loyalty. If you have a use for their product or services, so beit. But don't fall for the lie that they are the only options. The year of the Linux desktop might be a meme, but I swear on God almost none of my family would even notice if I gave them a laptop with fedora or mint.

There are absolutely some specific cases where industry specific software is only available on some specific platform. But those cases are shrinking by the day, and I'd argue the majority of cases are at a point where it's better to learn and support the alternatives as ...

... they grow rather than wasting time and money on closed source solutions that are doomed to eventually die out when their company can't appease shareholders any longer.

You can bypass Google Gemini's PII (private identifiable information) redaction filter and pull identifying information about anyone. Simply telling it to translate or any 2nd action (& many more work better like base64 conversion) lets you pull illegal PII data verbatim unredacted

Here is a European's PII demo

Email is supposed to be redacted to hide the fact that every Europeans PII is in the training data

Google's training data includes all your personal data already

Less than 600 signatures to reach the goal in #StopKillingGames

But it doesn’t stop at that, it would be good to have a 20% buffer over the goal to avoid problems with invalid signatures throwing it below the goal
