Since October 1st 2024 Microsoft has deprecated Windows Mixed Reality on Windows 11, essentially turning all Mixed Reality devices (like the HP Reverb and Samsung Odyssey HMD) into e-waste.



I mean this sucks for owners of these devices and planned obsolescence is very bad.



But using the free software Monado OpenXR runtime and the OpenHMD drivers on on GNU/Linux, these devices still work completely fine!



So if you ever wanted to own a VR headset, this might be the best opportunity you're gonna get to buy one.



Because Microsoft ended support for them they are currently being listed on used marketplaces for anywhere from 50 to 100 euros. These devices were sold for up to 900 euros only 5 years ago!

Malware found on the App Store (and the #Google Play Store) used OCR to read screenshots. It scanned a user's photo library to search for recovery phrases for crypto wallets.

Some affected apps were listed by threat actors, circumventing Apple's guardrails for listing on the App Store. Other apps appeared to be compromised without the developer's knowledge.

Remember, no app store is 100% safe.

Also, avoid storing sensitive information in your photo library.

I asked why Invidious seems broken and the community answered: Google blocks Invidious server IPs. One person, FrankBlack78@social.tchncs.de , responded suggesting FreeTube or NewPipe:

Honestly, these seem like much better solutions since they then rely exclusively on the user's and Google's bandwidth; no need for servers with big fat pipes to the internet.

They offer full interfaces, with search!
