Lawmakers are “taking a hard look” at VPNs after the total flop of the UK “age verification” rollout + we all know where that’s gonna lead—censorship fanatics are gonna try to bring the ban hammer down on VPNs.
Millions use VPNs to dodge surveillance + circumvent censorship.
Can you help us remind them what a terrible idea it is to destroy essential Internet safety infrastructure?

this "betanet" thing just looks like a massive grift

the internet itself is inherently decentralized, the problem is that the ecosystem has largely centralized over time to a few big players
not only does this not address that in any way, it introduces more problems by introducing a blockchain-style governance system vulnerable to 51% attacks

betanet does not have me too convinced rn.
there needs to be a slightly more abstracted and simplified explanation of the protocol, hard to see the interest in this when it's either a vague manifesto or overly technical jargon.
like what are the actual principles behind the way it's written and structured? there needs to be some actual comparison between this and other protocols (http, tor, i2p, fucking gemini or gopher or whatever the fuck)
also i'm getting that gut feeling that i get from any massive ambitious project that aims to fix everything forever.
not putting too much faith into it at the moment.
