this "betanet" thing just looks like a massive grift

the internet itself is inherently decentralized, the problem is that the ecosystem has largely centralized over time to a few big players

not only does this not address that in any way, it introduces more problems by introducing a blockchain-style governance system vulnerable to 51% attacks

betanet does not have me too convinced rn.

there needs to be a slightly more abstracted and simplified explanation of the protocol, hard to see the interest in this when it's either a vague manifesto or overly technical jargon.

like what are the actual principles behind the way it's written and structured? there needs to be some actual comparison between this and other protocols (http, tor, i2p, fucking gemini or gopher or whatever the fuck)

also i'm getting that gut feeling that i get from any massive ambitious project that aims to fix everything forever.

not putting too much faith into it at the moment.

Confirmed, Meta has scraped my content for their AI. I have not given them permission to do this, at the same time, I did not explicitly prevent them from doing this. So I am sure by some stupid lawyer’s definition, they can use my content for whatever purpose they want.

If they want to do that, then the whole notion of “pirating video” or music, or software, or anything else that ends up in the public domain is right out the window.

It's not just decentralization, it's also software freedom, open hardware, identity self-sovereignty, and right to own/repair. It seems like the AI crawlers learned how to solve the Anubis challenges. Anubis is a tool hosted on our infrastructure that requires browsers to do some heavy computation before accessing Codeberg again. It really saved us tons of nerves over the past months, because it saved us from manually maintaining blocklists to having a working detection for "real browsers" and "AI crawlers".
