I’ve had a proper challenge with ants farming aphids on most of my veg and the slugs eating what they fancy. I’ve watched many videos with different methods, honey and borax, washing up liquid and neem oil, gaffa tape round the apple trees etc. I’ve tried all of them with little to no success.
I finally found my own method after seeing a line of ants get repelled by lavender oil.
I hose the aphids off first, when they dry I blend lavender oil with sweet almond oil and wipe it on the stems and top leaves, the result is brilliant. I also wipe it round the rims of pots too and have small jars of it in the greenhouse. The heat in there intensifies the aroma.
The mix upsets the ants navigation so they have no choice but to stay away.
I’ve found that fine crushed eggs shells and onion stalks spread over the beds are enough to keep the slugs off although if it rains I do have to go on night patrol.
I’d love to join you where you are, i can’t just yet though, you’re a bit too far away, it looks amazing and respect to you for what you’re achieving. Respect to anyone who takes responsibility to feed themselves and their families.
