🇭🇺🇸🇰⚖️🇪🇺Hungarian FM Peter Szijjarto: Hungary and Slovakia to sue EU over 'Brussels diktat' to phase out Russian energy

➡️Hungary (and Slovakia) will challenge the European Commission's plans to decouple from Russian gas by the end of 2027 at the European Court of Justice, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said in Brussels.

➡️Following the Friday NATO Foreign Ministers meeting, Szijjarto said the plan endangers Hungary's energy security and could lead to a drastic price hike.

➡️Hungary is one of the few EU members to import a large quantity of Russian pipeline oil and gas.

➡️Last month, Hungary secured an exemption from US sanctions hitting Russian oil industries.

"The acceptance and implementation of this Brussels diktat is impossible for Hungary. This Brussels diktat undermines Hungary's energy security, because without Russian energy it is physically impossible to supply Hungary safely with oil and natural gas."

➡️The EU institutions struck a political agreement last week about the so-called RepowerEU plan. The directive will be binding for member states, and Hungary will not be able to veto it.

➡️Szijjarto described the legal framework to approve the law with a qualified majority instead of unanimity as equivalent to fraud.

"As soon as this diktat is voted on in its final form in Brussels, we will immediately challenge it in the European Court of Justice," the minister said, claiming his government has already begun the necessary legal work.

🇹🇭⚡️🇰🇭 Summary of Thailand -Cambodia conflict re-starting 10 Dec. 2025:

After a landmine blast on 10 November 2025 that wounded Thai soldiers, Thailand suspended implementation of a recently negotiated peace accord, blaming the Cambodian side for planting the mine.

Local skirmishes through November hardened into heavier fighting in early December, with both sides accusing the other of using heavier weapons (artillery/rockets).

According to Thai statements and regional reporting, Thailand began employing air strikes on Cambodian positions around 8–9 December.

By 9–11 December, Thailand began the use of drones to destroy Cambodian homes along the border. Cambodian side starts using heavy artillery and rocket shelling.

The fighting displaced hundreds of thousands of civilians on both sides and caused scores of fatalities and injuries as international mediators (ASEAN) sought to calm the situation.

🇹🇭⚡️🇰🇭 The border dispute between Thailand and Cambodia is long-running and centres on several undemarcated stretches of the 817 km frontier and on cultural/territorial claims around ancient temples, notably Preah Vihear / Khao Phra Viharn.

The International Court of Justice awarded the Preah Vihear temple itself to Cambodia in 1962, but surrounding ground has remained contested and a flashpoint ever since. Periodic clashes have recurred for decades (notably spikes in 2008, and multiple flare-ups in 2025).

🇹🇭❗️🇰🇭 Thailand's Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has moved to dissolve the parliament on Friday after three months in office, paving the way for general elections early next year.

The move comes earlier than expected and during renewed deadly clashes between Thailand and Cambodia along their disputed border.

Anutin submitted a request for the dissolution of parliament to the king, local media reported on Thursday.

Thailand’s King Maha Vajiralongkorn later endorsed the decree to dissolve parliament, the country’s official Royal Gazette announced on Friday, making way for early elections, which by law must now be held within 45 to 60 days.

Government spokesman Siripong Angkasakulkiat told the Reuters news agency that the move followed a dispute with the opposition People’s Party, the largest bloc in the legislature.
