Android 14 may allow you to create an emoji wallpaper on your Pixel.

In #Android14_DP2, a new "Emoji Wallpaper" app has been discovered under /product, which appears to be exclusive to the Pixel. They are not available by default, but when enabled through the debug flag, a new "Emoji Lab" set will appear in the wallpaper list. Clicking on it will open a page that allowed you to create new wallpapers with different emoji.

When you create a wallpaper, you can choose up to 14 emoji to be included in the custom wallpaper, choose one of the patterns: "Mosaic", "Lotus", "Stacks", "Placer", "Prism"; and choose one of the colors. It is also possible to choose a random set.

The app will save several emoji wallpapers you have created in the corresponding section, and you will have the possibility to edit them.

Pixel Launcher works on updating the app shortcuts popup window.
#Android14_DP2

Google is working on an update to the design of the window that appears when you hold down an app icon. It's now two solid containers: one for app shortcuts, the other for everything else.

In addition, the parallel bars on the right side, signaling that an object can be dragged, are gone, but the functionality itself remains. It is worth assuming that the design is not yet complete.

This change is hidden behind the developer flag ENABLE_MATERIAL_U_POPUP.

Google Files works on even more Material You redesign.

In the new iteration, dynamic colors are now applied to the page background, various components such as lists have been converted into containers with rounded corners, and the logo in the top bar has been replaced by the search bar that we are familiar with from other Google apps.

Overall, we can say that the work is still in progress. The colors still need to be adjusted, and the system navbar does not match the color of the app's navigation bar.

Google has announced the beta test of Android 13 QPR3.

The first beta will be released next week (week that begins March 13). Devices that were registered in the QPR2 beta program will automatically be transferred to the QPR3 beta (June release).

If you want to quit the beta program and receive the final public update to the March QPR2 release without losing your data, follow these steps:

Opt out of the program before March 13th, ignore/don’t apply the downgrade OTA update, and wait for the final public stable release of the March Feature Drop (QPR2) releasing this month.

• If you receive the Android 13 QPR3 Beta 1 update, don’t install the update. Instead, first opt out of the program, ignore/don’t apply the downgrade OTA update, and wait for the official March public release.

Google Files preps dual-pane Material You Redesign for Large Screen devices.

The redesign for phone form-factor I spotted earlier is actually part of a larger-screen app's UI revamp. The main emphasis on the 'Clean' and 'Browse' pages now is on using a two-pane layout with Activity embedding.

Other pages, such as Settings and Search, have been isolated in a container with rounded corners. You've already seen a similar solution in the upcoming Google News redesign.

First look at the animated gesture pill in Android 14.
#Android14_DP2

In Android 13, the gesture bar remains mostly static, except when you switch from an app to the Recents overview, the bar moves with the app card, but as soon as you release your finger, it returns to its place without any animation.

Thankfully, that's about to change. In Android 14 Developer Preview 2, we managed to enable an animated navigation bar gesture pill. The spring animation plays when you bring up the Recents overview menu, when you swipe to home, and when you go from the app to the Recents overview (it no longer goes with the app card).

❗️This is not the final look. At this stage, it's still extremely unstable, because as you can see from the demo, the animated pill overlaps the static one. This will most likely be fixed in future builds.
