The first live video of the Pixel 8 Pro showing off the new thermometer feature has been leaked.
Kuba Wojciechowski (via 91 Mobiles) has shared a video of the Pixel 8 Pro that reveals the full design of the phone, as well as demonstrating the thermometer feature.
From a previous Pixel 8 Pro renders leak, we remember that there was an unknown sensor underneath the flash. As it turns out, it's a special infrared temperature measurement sensor. This sensor is similar to the one used in most non-contact thermometers. In the video we can see a clear demonstration of how this would work.
In addition to measuring body temperature, the Pixel 8 Pro will be able to measure the temperature of objects. The collected data will be stored locally, and it will be processed through Android Private Compute Core.

Android 14 will allow you to 'save app pair' shortcut.
As Mishaal Rahman discovered, Android 14 Beta 2 added a new ENABLE_APP_PAIRS developer flag to the Pixel Launcher. If you turn it on, you will be able to 'save app pair' of two apps in split screen mode from the context menu in recents overview.
Most likely, after that a corresponding shortcut will appear on the home screen, and when you click on it, it will open the previously saved pair of apps in split-screen mode.

Hands-on: I finally got this fully working, so here's a full demo of Android 14's new partial screen recording feature.
This feature lets you record a single app without any System UI elements or notifications appearing in the video! A useful feature to have when you need to screen record something to share with others!
(In the app selector dialog, you can swipe up to show the full app list. You can also swipe left or right on the carousel to show more apps from your recents app list.)
EDIT:
If you leave the app you selected to record, then Android will continue screen recording but the content will be black. If you open the app again, the contents will once again be captured in the same recording.
The recording doesn't end unless you swipe down and end it manually.

Google Contacts will soon show the time and weather at a contact's home address. In the future, if you add the contact's home address info, you'll see a new card with the city name, local time, and weather. Clicking on the card will open weather.com In…
A bunch of new upcoming changes to the Google Contacts app:
• Redesigned Call, Text, etc. buttons, which are now presented as a circle with an icon inside.
• A new 'Google Maps · Location sharing' tile, which when clicked will open a map with the contact's location (if they have shared the location with you).
• A new tile will appear on the 'Highlights' tab with Suggestions for who to add to your favorites. As stated, this is "based on who you interact with most".
These hidden features complement the previous changes I discovered, such as the time and weather tile by contact's home address and the new round-frame photo display.
All of these new features are built inside the latest version 4.9.19.533509922 and require only server-side activation (means, they are not yet available).

Big leak of Google Tensor 3 processor specs.
Android Authority has published the specs of the processor that the Pixel 8 will be equipped with, thanks to a source inside Google:
• Layout: 4x Cortex-A510 @ 2.15GHz + 4x Cortex-A715 @ 2.45GHz + 1x Cortex-X3 @ 3.0GHz.
• ARMv9 architecture
• Support for Memory Tagging Extensions (MTE) by Arm.
• GPU: Arm Mali-G715, 890MHz. Presumably a 10 core 'Immortalis' variant with ray tracing support.
• Potential support for 8K30 video decoding/encoding in H.264 and HEVC. But this is unlikely to be included in the final device.
• The Pixel 8 will be the first phone to support AV1 to 4K30 encoding.
• The TPU, codenamed 'Rio', will run at 1.1GHz.
• A new second-generation GXP digital signal processor (codenamed 'callisto') with a frequency increase from 975MHz to 1065MHz.
• New UFS 4.0 controller from Samsung.
• Modem: A 'slightly different variant' of the Exynos Modem 5300.

Google Calendar app will receive updated Material You widgets.
The last time the widgets were redesigned was in October 2021, and at the time it was hard to call it a redesign, as they simply got rounded corners and dynamic colors. However, this is about to change.
The latest version of the app, numbered 2023.22.1-537255951, has a new hidden flag, "Gm3Widget_Enabled", which, when activated, gives widgets a complete Material You design.
At the same time, this design has been drawn for some time, as Google itself demonstrated it on its blog in the same October 2021.
