Gboard will soon add a new built-in " Scan text " tool.
There's a hidden feature in the latest beta that includes a new "Scan text" tile on the toolbar. Clicking on it will open the built-in camera interface with the caption "Take a photo of words to scan". After clicking the shutter, OCR will highlight the recognized text, which can then be selected and inserted into the input field.
Feature was discovered in the latest beta version 13.06.04 and is not yet available by default.

Google's password manager is about to get a redesign with a navigation bar.
The service will get a navigation bar with three tabs "Passwords", "Checkup" and "Settings". The last two pages were previously on the main page as separate buttons.
Along with this change, the search bar and the add password button have also received a makeover. In general terms, the design language is now more in line with Material Design 3.
When Google is going to roll out the redesign is not yet known.

Pixel Watch companion app prepares a new full battery notification feature.
When your watch reaches 100% charge the companion app will send you a notification that the watch is fully charged. From my experience, the notification doesn't appear immediately, but after a few minutes once the watch has reached 100%.
The feature is currently hidden behind a server-side flag in app v2.1.0, but it's likely Google will roll it out in the coming months.

Here's a look at Bluetooth LE Audio's broadcast audio feature on Android 13!
User aborne25 on Twitter put together a demo of broadcast audio (Auracast) using their Sony Xperia 5 V connected to Sony's INZONE Buds and LinkBuds S, which all support LE Audio. Since Sony's Android fork is quite close to stock, this gives us a look at what broadcast audio will look like on Pixel in the future!
In order for this to work, you need an Android smartphone with a Bluetooth chip that supports LE Audio and a software stack that supports it (Android 13 or later). You also need audio products that support LE Audio, of which there aren't many right now. Further, all products need to support the Public Broadcast Profile (PBP). As shown in the video, "LE_AUDIO" as well as "Receive shared audio" need to be toggled on in settings.
To start a broadcast, open the media output switcher from the media player notification and tap the "Broadcast" button in the bottom left. A QR code is shown at the top which lets other devices quickly join the broadcast. Below that, the broadcast name and password can be edited. When you're broadcasting, the device name in the media output switcher changes to "broadcasting".
To join the broadcast, you either go to sound & vibration settings or open the expanded volume slider and then tap on the broadcast icon. Then select "find broadcasts" and select the broadcast from the list. Tapping "leave broadcast" will leave the broadcast but it'll continue in the background until you tap "stop casting".
Hopefully more audio products with LE Audio broadcast support get released, because multi-device audio sharing is something a LOT of folks want but something only a few devices with custom Bluetooth stacks offer!

Google Search app on Android will get a thick search bar with a suggestion carousel. Google is experimenting with changing the size of the search bar, now it's very hard to miss. Below the new search bar sits a carousel of Google Lens cues and voice search…
This spring, Google rolled out a new search bar design characterized by a large height and a carousel of quick actions. And now six months later, the company is experimenting with a new iteration of the design on iOS and Android platforms.
• On iOS, the quick actions are now combined into one container with the search bar, and the "search" caption at app launch shimmers with colors that the company typically uses for AI features. This option is already starting to appear to some users.
• On Android, the quick buttons were reduced in height, the search bar became white, while behind it you'll see a bluish gradient. This experiment is not yet available to users. (H/T @Assembledebug via GApps Flags & Leaks)

Currently on non pixel 8 devices it says the app is not compatible with your device. And on the Pixel 8 series itself, there are no buttons to update or disable. The stub version on Android 14 is 0.release.539035001, while the Play Store mentions 0.release.580534919 with an update dated November 9. Notably, the app is Android 12+.
