January 2024 Pixel Feature Drop has been released!
In addition to the new Minty Fresh color for the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro, Google also released a few new features for their devices:
• Measure your body temperature with the Pixel 8 Pro
In the Thermometer app, you can now scan your forehead with your Pixel 8 Pro to accurately measure body temperature. You can also save the results to your Fitbit profile.
• New "Circle to Search" feature for Pixel 8 and 8 Pro.
With a long press the Pixel home button or navigation bar, you can scan the screen and circle, highlight, scribble or tap what you see to get more information from Search, right where you are, without switching between apps. And with multisearch’s latest AI-powered upgrades, you can ask a more complex question about an image you’re searching.
• Magic Compose for Google Messages
Use Google's generative AI technology to rewrite a drafted message in different styles with Magic Compose. (Pixel 6 and newer). And on the Pixel 8 Pro with Gemini Nano, all of this will happen right on the device.
• Photomoji in Google Messages
Photo Moji lets you turn your favorite photos into a reaction using Google's AI on your device.
• "Nearby Share" will soon be renamed "Quick share".
• Audio Switch expands to Pixel Watch
Pixel Buds Pro automatically connect when you move between paired devices — so there’s no need to switch them manually. Now, you can switch your Pixel Buds Pro from your Pixel Watch to any number of Pixel 5a and newer phones or Pixel Tablet, and get helpful notifications about where your audio is switching to.
Almost all of these features are distributed through apps and don't require a system update.

Google Pixel 8 Pro gets body temperature measurements. But only in the US.
The Thermometer app has received a new update with the ability to measure body temperature by placing the phone against the center of your forehead and moving from it to your temple. Additional camera permission is requested.
Before measuring, you need to select an age: 0-3 months, 3-36 months, 3 years and older. The data can be synchronized with Fitbit. In Fitbit itself, there is an option to add a value manually, or measure with the Pixel 8 Pro's temperature sensor.
However, the feature has only been certified in the US, so it's only enabled in the US. The verification is based on the region of the SIM card.
🔗 How do I activate outside the US?

Until now, the display cutout area of the Gboard keyboard in landscape mode has remained transparent. But the latest beta version added two hidden flags
enable_display_cutout_customization andconfig_ignore_display_cutout_area. When both flags are enabled, the keyboard starts to appear behind the display cutout, but without the necessary paddings. Perhaps there will be other options for drawing behind the cutout in the future betas. Notably, this was done after my report. Among other major competitors, such as SwiftKey or Yandex Keyboard, no one has thought about drawing behind the display cutout in landscape mode either.

Official Google's demo video of Assistant with Bard.
The arrival of Bard on Android seems to be just around the corner, as Google has prepared a special page in the Pixel Tips app to explain the features of the Bard-enabled Assistant. It also features a demo video of the UI in action.
From the video, you can see that Bard will be able to be invoked like a regular assistant, while it will also have a shortcut in the list of apps. Once invoked, you are given a choice of 3 actions: enter a query using the keyboard, speak the query with your voice, or insert an image and complete it with a query.
Since this page already exists in the Pixel Tips app (but is not yet available to users), it looks like Bard on Android will appear as early as one of the next Pixel Feature Drop.
Previously, 9to5Google has already demoed the Bard UI here and here.

Assistant with Bard has appeared a bit early in the Pixel Tips app, giving us another look at how the upcoming feature will work.
But it also reveals when it'll arrive and on what devices it'll be available on. This is early info and could be wrong, but here's what I found:
1) The Assistant with Bard tip's "publication date" is 202403, which means this should go live in March alongside the March 2024 Pixel Feature Drop.
2) The Assistant with Bard tip is blocked from appearing on every Pixel device except for the Tensor-powered Pixel phones. The Pixel Tablet (tangorpro), Pixel Fold (felix), and rumored Pixel Fold 2 (comet) appear on the denylist. The tip is also blocked from appearing on devices running Android builds with IDs that start with UP1, UD1, and UQ1, which means it won't appear unless you're running the QPR2 beta (which starts with AP1) or the upcoming stable QPR2 release.

Wish more Android apps would go edge-to-edge, ie. take up 100% of your screen? Google has heard you, because they're working on adding a config in Android 15 that forces apps to go edge-to-edge by default!
