Pixel 9 series will get an updated modem with emergency satellite connectivity support.

As reported by Kamila Wojciechowska (via Android Authority), the Tensor G4 coming to the Pixel 9 series will come with a new Samsung Modem 5400. This modem has support for the 3GPP Release 17 standard, which provides support for "non-terrestrial 5G networks," or in other words, satellite communications.

The modem will appear in all Tensor G4-based devices with cellular support, including the Pixel 9 series and the next-generation Pixel Fold. Google is also reportedly in the early stages of developing a 5G tablet codenamed "clementine" with the same modem.

The satellite connection will allow text messaging, but not calling. In addition, communication with emergency services will be done through a special "Satellite Gateway" app. But for this you will need to point your phone at the satellite, for which Google has prepared a special animation.

Google's next foldable device could be called 'Pixel 9 Pro Fold'.

A couple of months ago, renders of the 'Pixel Fold 2' were leaked online. However, thanks to a source at Google, Android Authority has learned that this device could be called 'Pixel 9 Pro Fold', thus we can expect 4 models of the main lineup at once this fall:

• Pixel 9 - codename 'Tokay'
• Pixel 9 Pro - codename 'Caiman'.
• Pixel 9 Pro XL - codename 'Komodo'.
• Pixel 9 Pro Fold - codename 'Comet'.

Plus, it was previously revealed that Google's next foldable device will be powered by the Tensor G4 CPU, and the body design is more similar to the 9's lineup of devices.

Until recently, Google referred to the device codenamed 'Comet' as the 'Pixel Fold 2'. So, it's possible that the name 'Pixel 9 Pro Fold' isn't finalized either.

Real photos of the Pixel 9 Pro have appeared online.

An anonymous source of 'Rozetked' shared photos of the Pixel 9 Pro (caiman) with a 6.1-inch screen, comparing its dimensions with the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

According to the bootloader page, the device is powered by a Tensor G4 processor, 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM from Micron, and 128GB of UFS storage from Samsung. Apparently, the phone fails to turn on ('Boot Failure').
