The public blockchain on which they rely is a complex and adversarial environment. The freedom it facilitates breeds opportunity for ignorant behavior by irrational and illiterate actors, while each vulnerability will be exploited eventually. With many on-chain protocols still a work in progress, DeFi is a risky cryptoeconomic system.
