The shooter was within roughly 125 meters of Trump, the effective range of an AR is roughly 600 meters, and the effective range of a novice civilian shooter (on a roof in the prone position) with a zeroed AR is certainly beyond 125 meters.

A good rule would be to secure and watch all elevated positions within 800 meters.

Anyone here reading this on Telegram would have done a MUCH better job as a secret service commander than who ever was in charge of Trump security when Trump was hit in that failed assassination attempt.
