Actually, ideological identity is even worse than civic identity.

At least there are more than a handful of civic identities.

Can't say the same for ideological identity.

Ideological identity transcends borders.

Civic identity does not.

Ideological identity is therefore implicitly less ethnocentric than civic identity, even if the ideology says otherwise.
