Hello to the amazing Humanode community! As usual, we are here to share a recap of the latest news and events from the network. These weeks were quite fruitful for teams, so let’s point out some of the key updates.
First and foremost, Humanode has reached a deal to integrate FaceTec’s face biometrics and liveness detection into its ‘crypto-biometrics’ platform. The integration and development partnership with FaceTec will provide an anchor for the chain of trust behind the digital identity. FaceTec’s 3D FaceMaps will be used to create decentralized pseudonymous identities with reliable defense against Sybil manipulation, and enable remote identity verification. Previously, the team announced a strategic partnership with startup support and finance firm Republic Crypto.
The work is going steadily on the development side. As part of the latest update, teams shared what they’ve been working on over the past two weeks. As for the network development, they’ve switched bioauth enroll toggle from environment variable to a CLI flag, wired bio-authentication parameters through the CLI options rather than environment variables, prepared run command for extending with extra parameters, added an indirection layer for obtaining the Substrate CLI configuration, reworked the configuration to allow custom parameters, added support for — dev mode and allow reading chain spec from files, used camel case for robonode on-the-wire JSON format, refactored HTTP handlers to use combinators and the CLI modules structure, updated Substrate and dependencies, corrected bioauth pallet name usage, decoupled bioauth consensus from Aura and bioauth pallet, and started internal infrastructure testing.
Considering crypto-biometric search and matching and liveness algorithms, they’ve speeded up the evaluation process and added a threshold — accuracy noscript, fixed a bug in the model loading part and add the debug code in the evaluation noscript, updated the evaluation and dataset preparation noscript for liveness detection, added the evaluation noscript and modify the dataset preparation noscript for liveness detection, updated Sagemath, experimented on zero-knowledge proof for Convolutional Neural Network, implemented homomorphic encryption scheme based on ring learning with error problem as well as lattice RLWE encryption scheme for Python.

Furthermore, the team continues a series of interviews with Humanode researchers, engineers, and devs. The second interview featured Rafael, one of the senior cryptographers of the Humanode Bio-authentication team. Rafael discussed his background and role in the Humanode project and told us about what excites him the most about crypto-biometrics.

Humanode’s latest blog post discusses Formation. In a nutshell, Formation is a one-of-a-kind grant-funded development initiative. Grants, investments, service agreements, and jobs are all available. Its sole purpose is to support the Humanode network and its associated technologies. Successful projects can eventually deliver more value than they were given, producing a positive feedback cycle. Utilizing biometrics as one of its core technologies, Humanode creates the decentralized biometric identification layer that is not only used on the native Humanode platform but can be used in a variety of platforms and decentralized applications, including popular NFTs marketplaces and services. Hello, all crypto enthusiasts from all over the globe! We’re ready to share the latest news from the sci-fi and high-tech Humanode’s world!
During these two weeks, Humanode teams were working assiduously, making significant progress with current development. As part of the latest update, teams shared what they’ve been working on. As for the network development, major refactoring of the bio-authentication pallet and consensus around the validator key type has been made, the team dropped parity-db patch, removed the custom serde implementation, added JS types, decoupled bio-authentication consensus from Aura and bio-authentication pallet, and made bio-authentication key UX improvements. The great news is, they carried out internal testing with 14 nodes! More exciting news to follow!
Considering crypto-biometric search and matching and liveness algorithms, the team added test code for feathernet based liveness detection, loss and evaluation code for feathernet based liveness detection, as well as model architecture and train code for feathernet based liveness detection. On top of that, they researched another possibility for linking ZKP layers, started exploring Rust binding for Python using PyO3, and defined the protocols for collective authority.
On September 2nd, 2021, the Humanode team attended EthBuilders NYC special virtual event fully devoted to Humanode. They were speaking about Fath monetary algorithm, the Humanode DAO named Vortex, gave a presentation on crypto-biometrics, described Humanode tech stack, and discussed some of the Humanode use cases. Humanode’s latest blog post discusses biometric-based marketplaces. With user accounts tied to the crypto-biometrics based identification, businesses will be able to provide Sybil defenses, only allowing “proven human beings” from providing reviews, being able to build or utilize credit scores for customers and merchants alike, and be able to prevent a wide variety of frauds or at least be able to hold people accountable, in the form of blacklisting the ID, preventing them from doing more harm. Humanode Network API will enable human-verified single sign-on (SSO) for Humanode powered dapps and protocols. Decentralized credit scoring is another great use case here. The crucial point is that biometrics is unique, especially when combined with crypto-biometrics, which provide the highest level of security and privacy as well as identity verification for credit scores. It is a win-win situation for both the buyer and the seller, the creditor, and the debtor, while also resolving a major issue for platforms in terms of establishing trust and responsibility.
