One morning in January, I woke up and it was like a spell had been broken the way I looked around my room and saw how dull everything was, not because it was lacking but because of how full it was of stuff.

great video that sums up my feelings on social media
when you’re documenting for an audience, authenticity turns into strategy
this leads to lesser true experience (in the moment) and happiness
the true meaning of a moment is often in the feeling, not the record
being present matters more than how the photos look
are you living to truly live life or living to relive it later?
are you performing or living?

Living vs. Performing: The Authenticity Trap
For anyone who’s felt Instagram burnout, social media fatigue, or the pressure of performing online, this video essay explores why posting rarely feels authentic. Even casual posts are curated, and what seems effortless often turns into another kind of performance.…
it’s highly unfortunate that minority of people truly understand this
mimetic society that is often trying to impress others even through social media
overcompensation and portrayal of one’s happiness (individually or a relationship) can often be sensed through social media presence
many are so unhappy with their own lives that they lean into others’ online to feel something
be more present for your own sake (i stray sometimes as well)
an era of performance, the death of authenticity

what you can't change - accept,
what you can't accept - leave.

Smarter people tend to be more outgoing and happy, to have fewer problems falling to sleep and staying asleep, to be less manic, and to be less psychotic, prone to ADHD, etc.

Polygenic scores can now meaningfully distinguish between embryos for health traits and, critically, intelligence. Our comprehensive pleiotropy analysis suggests that concerns about hidden trade-offs are largely unfounded, in fact, our data indicates that screening for cognitive ability is associated with broadly positive psychological and health outcomes. We think that when negative pleiotropy exists, parents should be made aware of it to inform their choice of which embryo to implant.

this is interesting because my view has always been that people of higher IQ tend to be unhappier because they know too much of how the world operates (the dark parts of the world that are usually hidden)
something about ignorance is blessing and most of society operates with inconscious incompetence (hence happier)
like how most philosophers think themselves into depression eventually
