we're heading toward a "posting zero" world, where people stop posting to compete against the chaos happening on social media feeds

This is the logical endpoint of a frictionless society: when every external stimulation is instantly available, people are left with nowhere to turn but inward, and what do we find? Emptiness. The unending stream of content hasn't filled the void; it's simply distracted us from developing the internal resources to cope with it.

the removal of friction is leading us headfirst, in the words of Stuart Whatley, to a society that is bored to death - leaving us vulnerable to toxic and damaging ideologies:

this is something i’ve been sharing around as well
i’ve read/listened to plenty of deathbed/elderly interviews and the answers mostly fall into a small bucket
it’s never “i wished i worked harder/ earned more money/ bought that house”, but its
- i wish i spent more time w loved ones
- i wish i took action
- i wish i took care of myself better
- i wish i cherished life more
- i wish i stopped being afraid
and ive always found it so fascinating how millions of different and unique people all eventually converge into the same talking points nearing heaven’s door
it’s something most people know, yet have not internalised
which is why i always try to live by the motto of fearing regret more than failure
i rather fail than sit in the regrets of “what if” for the rest of my life
i still succumb to fears and distractions at times, but i guess that’s life - a constant work in progress

if something burns your soul with purpose and desire, it’s your duty to be reduced to ashes by it
“I am ready. I am six foot four. I have done the work.” What work? Love is precisely the place where work collapses into failure. You study and then you fail the exam.

Ah! You see, this miserable little document, this so-called date-me doc, is our era’s most honest pornography. It pretends to be romance, but what is it really? It is no longer the trembling hand on paper, the confession of desire. It is a spreadsheet of…
people are afraid of *falling* in love, because falling means losing control and surrendering our self-certainty
we want to love without falling, desire without danger, affection without attachment. to feel without risking, to be transformed without burning, or in other words, safe, sanitised, detached. dating apps enable this, because everyone is presented at an arms length
but love is a freefall, a kind of madness and “traumatic encounter with the real”, which people often then avoid, no matter how much they say they want love

It has a very high “excellent random meal” factor because of the high volume of restaurants.
I briefly recall friends also saying, "everything in Japan in good" when I asked for food recommendations. In fact, I was highly encouraged to randomly walk into small local or family run stalls by the roadside. The culture of perfection probably helps a lot as well.

Eating out culture in Tokyo is not like other cities. Tokyo has 10x the number of restaurants compared to LA so the whole idea of a top 10 or top 50 list is just nonsense. Tokyo breaks the conventional model that there’s some specific place all the way across…
