if something burns your soul with purpose and desire, it’s your duty to be reduced to ashes by it
“I am ready. I am six foot four. I have done the work.” What work? Love is precisely the place where work collapses into failure. You study and then you fail the exam.

Ah! You see, this miserable little document, this so-called date-me doc, is our era’s most honest pornography. It pretends to be romance, but what is it really? It is no longer the trembling hand on paper, the confession of desire. It is a spreadsheet of…
people are afraid of *falling* in love, because falling means losing control and surrendering our self-certainty
we want to love without falling, desire without danger, affection without attachment. to feel without risking, to be transformed without burning, or in other words, safe, sanitised, detached. dating apps enable this, because everyone is presented at an arms length
but love is a freefall, a kind of madness and “traumatic encounter with the real”, which people often then avoid, no matter how much they say they want love

It has a very high “excellent random meal” factor because of the high volume of restaurants.
I briefly recall friends also saying, "everything in Japan in good" when I asked for food recommendations. In fact, I was highly encouraged to randomly walk into small local or family run stalls by the roadside. The culture of perfection probably helps a lot as well.

Eating out culture in Tokyo is not like other cities. Tokyo has 10x the number of restaurants compared to LA so the whole idea of a top 10 or top 50 list is just nonsense. Tokyo breaks the conventional model that there’s some specific place all the way across…

UC San Diego has released a new report documenting a “steep decline in the academic preparedness” of its freshmen.
The number of entering students needing remedial math has exploded from 1/100 to 1/8.
“This deterioration coincided with the COVID-19 pandemic and its effects on education, the elimination of standardized testing, grade inflation, and the expansion of admissions from under-resourced high schools.”

the “real world” is not something that is fixed
it is whatever someone decided feels normal to them
our real worlds are relative

What’s strange is how people talk about “the real world” like it’s this fixed thing we’re all supposed to return to.
I’ve been hearing it for two years, about my nomad life being somehow “not real”. Then I land in a kung fu school where training becomes…

China’s worsening economy has wrecked the appetite for global luxury brands. Demand that was supposed to return after the lifting of strict Covid-19 restrictions has instead slumped for overseas firms. This disappointment has helped erase shares at key luxury houses, with LVMH down about 30 per cent from its 2023 peak, while Kering has plunged roughly 60 per cent since its high in 2021 in Paris.
…
It is not just a China phenomenon. Shoppers globally have become more discerning, with consumers turning to labels that look premium at lower price points as they grow increasingly weary of spending on big-name brands that keep raising prices.
a global pivot point observation as society starts to properly feel the pinch of the economy
after years of fast and cookie cutter fashion, we start feeling the need for more tailored products that speak to us? consumers are now buying more into storytelling products
big stretch but maybe it’s due a lost of sense of self over time as well
